'Grey's Anatomy' Season 16 Episode 8: Cristina Yang's letter to Meredith Grey has fans bawling their eyes out
It was a tough battle for Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), but how could she not win? The star surgeon got to keep her medical license after intense scrutiny by the medical board, and she got her job back at Grey-Sloane Memorial. Meredith had committed insurance fraud at the end of season 15 to save a patient's life and had been fired by Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson).
The episode 'My Shot' gave fans all the feels as we saw old patients coming to court and explaining how Meredith saved them. But the cherry on the cake was when Alex (Justin Chambers) read out Cristina Yang's (Sandra Oh) letter in court. Cristina Yang has always been Meredith's 'person', and continues to remain so, even she isn't present in the show. In the letter, Cristina calls Meredith the 'sun.' This is a reference to the last dialogue Cristina has for Meredith before she leaves the show. She had said, "He (Derek) is not the sun. You are."
One fan tweeted, "When the music came on and we all knew it was Cristina’s letter. #GreysAnatomy." Another wrote, "SHE IS THE SUN AND SHE IS UNSTOPPABLE. - Dr. Cristina Yang."
"Don’t think I didn’t hear the cover of Meredith and Cristina’s dance it out song in the background", one wrote.
Fans are begging for Cristina to return to 'Grey's Anatomy' ever since her exit in season 10. Cristina had left Grey-Sloane after Dr. Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington) offered her a hospital. "Bring Cristina Yang back!!" One wrote.
Another wrote, "I want Cristina back NOW please." One fan angrily wrote that the writers should stop mentioning Cristina if they had no intention to bring her back. "Alright @GreysABC stop mentioning cristina yang in meredith grey’s storylines if you’ve got no plans to follow through with what is clearly the most drawn-out love story ever please and thanks."
Another fan tweeted, "Lost it when Alex said Dr. Cristina Yang."
The episode clearly has fans reaching for the tissues. "#GreysAnatomy was sooo good. When all of Meredith's patients came, and the cover of "Where Does The Good Go" played in the background and Alex was reading a letter from Cristina and had more letters from Callie, April and Addison. Omg all the feels."
Cristina and Meredith became fast friends and sisters from the beginning of their internship days in 'Grey's Anatomy', and it just grew stronger as they saw each other's ups and downs, firings, a devastating plane crash and deaths of the ones they loved.
The eighth episode from the sixteenth season of 'Grey's Anatomy' aired on ABC on November 14.
