Golden Globes 2024: Jo Koy called 'worst host ever' after monologue bombs and jokes fall flat

The host of 'Golden Globes' 2024 gets mocked for his hosting skills and comedy gig

BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA: The 81st Golden Globes 2024got off to a rough start as comedian Jo Koy took to the stage as a first-time host and sadly delivered a forgettable opening monologue.

He left viewers unimpressed with his opener and even tagged on excuses as to why he was so underprepared. He said halfway through the speech, "I got the gig ten days ago and you wanted a perfect monologue?"

Fans rushed to X (formerly Twitter) to call out his terrible hosting skills and poor comedic timing, 

One person tweeted, "This host is so not it, how do they mess this up every year? #GoldenGlobes". Another wrote, " I just wanna know how far down the list Jo Koy was to host. Can’t stand him. being done with his hosting." A user wrote, "Get Jo Koy off the screen, I’m not watching THAT"

Koy even mocked crowd favorite Kevin Costner, saying, "he's never in the room." He went on to say that when he was given the hosting gig he said he would watch everything but admitted he 'lied' and only watched 'Beef'. Not just this, he also asked Berry Keoghan where "his penis was seated" referring to the nudity in 'Salburton'. He also threw shade at 'The Color Purple' stating that Ozempic turned 'a**hole color purple."

Koy also called out Meghan Markle and Prince Harry for getting paid hefty amounts for doing 'absolutely nothing' for the streaming platform Netflix. 

The outrageous comedy and unnecessary fun poked at the celebrities did not sit well with netizens and some even called him the 'worst host ever'. 

Who is Jo Koy, the host for Golden Globes 2024? 

Born on June 2, 1971, Jo Koy was born Joseph Glenn Herbert Sr. he is an American stand-up comedian and actor. He is also a frequent panelist on E! late-night show 'Chelsea Lately'. He has done several shows for Comedy Central and Netflix specials such as 'Jo Koy: Live From Seattle'. 

On December 21, 2023, Jo Koy was announced the official host for the 81st 'Gloden Globes' Awards.

Taylor Swift unimpressed after Jo Koy disses her at Golden Globes 2024

Jo Koy seemed to have made 'Golden Globes' Swifties furious as he mocked Taylor Swift at the award ceremony. 

"As you know we came on after a football doubleheader. The big difference between 'Golden Globes' and the NFL is that on the 'Golden Globes' we have fewer shots of Taylor Swift, I swear."

The camera panned toward Taylor as she took a sip of her wine and rolled her eyes to this 'unnecessary' comment. 

Jo Koy poked fun at Greata Gregwig's Barbie and stated the film was about 'boobies'.

Koy also poked fun at 'Oppenheimer' before pointing out that it was up against Barbie for 'Best Blockbuster', he targeted the director Greta Gregwig as he said the film was only about 'boobies'. 

Both Oppenheimer and Barbie hit theatres in July 2023 and were declared massive hits. Greta Gregwig's 'Barbie' received ample support from fans and critics for showcasing the movie in such a different and refreshing way. 

Jo Koy's making fun of 'Barbie' left netizens unimpressed as they took to Twitter and ranted.

On X, one user commented, "I know I said the joke wasn’t that bad, just unfunny but this post is right, Jo Koy reduced Taylor from a nominee right after he had the nerve to reduce the Barbie movie to plastic and boobs. Do better next time." Another wrote, "I’m still reeling from Jo Koy saying that the Barbie movie is about a 'plastic doll with big boobs'. He’s either a d-bag, a terrible comedian or both." Another expressed annoyance, "Be so serious #GoldenGlobes this asshole Jo Koy was all you could find to host the globes? When RDJ is right there and would show Barbie and Taylor the respect they deserve?" and stated that both Taylor Swift and Greta Grewig deserved respect for their work.
