Golden Globes 2023 host Jerrod Carmichael’s Will Smith joke falls flat, Internet calls it 'horrible'
BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA: The Golden Globe Awards 2023 is being hosted by Jerrod Carmichael, a household name and a regular SNL member. Throughout his monologues, he took several jabs at celebrities like Tom Cruise, Kanye West, and more. However, he brought up the infamous Will Smith incident at the 2022 Oscars and the joke is not aging well with the fans. Some are saying that Carmichael needs to "update" his material and some are saying that the joke is overdone and is in "poor taste."
Will Smith was banned from the Academy Awards for a decade for slapping Chris Rock last year. Consequently, the Globes left him out this year for his performance as a real-life runaway slave who fights in the Civil War in Apple TV+’s 'Emancipation'. It earned zero nominations overall. Trolling the controversial actor, Carmichael said, "While we were on commercial, we actually presented Will Smith with the Rock Hudson award for best portrayal of masculinity on television, so please give it up for Will Smith. Please! Please!" The audience did not reciprocate accordingly and the host had to settle with faint applause.
