Golden Globes 2020: Michelle Williams wins Best Actress for 'Fosse/Verdon', advocates for women's choice in speech

The show received 17 nominations at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards, and Michelle Williams received the Emmy for Oustanding Actress in a Limited Series

Things are winding up at the 77th Annual Golden Globes Awards, and we're now approaching the major accolades that everyone has been waiting to hear since the evening began. Michelle Williams just won Best Actress for Miniseries or Television Film for 'Fosse/ Verdon'.

The other nominations in the category included:

Helen Mirren for 'Catherine the Great'
Merritt Wever for 'Unbelievable'
Kaitlyn Dever for 'Unbelievable'
Joey King for 'The Act'

'Fosse/Verdon' revolves around the story of the troubled couple. It is directed by Sam Rockwell, the director-choreographer is Bob Fosse and the actress-dancer is Gwen Verdon. It is based on the biography Fosse, by Sam Wasson. At the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards, the show received 17 nominations, and Michelle Williams received the Emmy for Oustanding Actress in a Limited Series for her role as Gwen Verdon.

While receiving the Golden Globes award, Williams made a powerful speech about the importance of choice and said, "Women, when it is time to vote please do so in your self-interest. It’s what men have been doing for years which is why the world looks so much like them but don’t forget we are the largest voting body in this country.”

Meanwhile, at the Golden Globes 2020, 'Chernobyl' won the award for best limited series or TV movie, and Sam Mendes won Best Director for '1917'.
