Episode 11 of the Discovery Channel documentary-series ‘Gold Rush: White Water’ Season 3 saw 76-year-old ‘Dakota’ Fred Hurt’s crew -- Ryan, Kayla, and Paul -- discover more gold than they had all season in just two days at “Thunder Falls”; each day more than the day before. With a very disappointing season up until this point, the crew was elated and even could see a glimmer of hope that they just might catch up with Dustin Hurt’s crew.

But their chances are also governed by time. With winter approaching fast, the creeks of Alaska would soon find themselves in a covering of frost that would solidify more each day. Frost is the deadline for them.

Dustin’s crew, on the other hand, were still struggling with their new spot at “Rockfalls Ravine” a name given to the spot to commemorate Dustin’s near-fatal tryst with a falling rock. Dustin’s crew, at their previous spot, had amassed more than 27 ounces of gold -- an amount that surpassed all their expectations. But will this new spot prove to be just as lucky?

In the preview video for Episode 12 at the end of Episode 11, we see Kayla going for her first dive of the season. The only woman on any team, she has had to face a lot of animosity from some crew members, including her stepbrother Dustin and stepfather ‘Dakota’ Fred. Her success in this one dive will prove the father-son duo wrong, once and for all. But will that be the case?

We also see Dustin’s crew encounter equipment damage -- their engines were releasing noxious fumes that could easily lead to the crew members falling sick. But both teams seem to be having the time of their lives when it comes to the precious yellow metal.

We see ‘Dakota’ Fred empty his jar of gold into a heap on a tray. Ryan says this is the most he has ever seen. On the other side, Dustin could be seen shouting in elation, clutching some of the biggest nuggets we have seen in all three seasons of ‘Gold Rush: White Water’ so far. Does this mean that the son still has a fighting chance against his father? In either case, both appear to be winners in their own right for now.

‘Gold Rush: White Water’ Season 3 airs on the Discovery Channel every Friday, 10 p.m. ET.
