While we have seen some strange collaborations in the past, the most unlikely duo has been announced with Jay Park and IU teaming up for his latest single ‘Ganadara’. Their fans too were pleasantly surprised as Jay Park usually dabbles in hip hop and R&B while IU is mainly known for her ballads and upbeat pop songs. But it looks like anything is possible in the K-pop industry.

Fans have not been able to keep up with Jay Park’s movements as he first retired as CEO from his two hip hop labels, AOMG and H1GHR Music. He then launched his own soju brand and then explained that he had not entirely retired from the K-pop industry as he was looking to debut a K-pop boy group. Working on that vision, he started his third K-pop label More Vision. And the first music project under it is the collaboration with IU.

Jay Park and IU to collab

Jay Park previously released ‘To Life’, his first single of 2022 which chronicles his journey in the Korean music industry. The rapper and singer will now be releasing ‘Ganadara’ featuring IU on March 11 at 6 pm KST (4 am ET) on all major music streaming platforms. And while fans find it odd that artists of two different genres are collaborating, this is not the first time that IU has shown her range as she has performed with rappers like BIGBANG’s G-Dragon, Zion.T and Block B’s Zico.

However, international fans have a different issue with the collaboration. While IU has had some small controversies here and there, they haven’t been serious. She has the public’s backing with everyone dubbing her ‘Nation’s Sweetheart’. However, Jay Park has been embroiled in several scandals like cultural appropriation. And while he has never said anything intentionally racist, POC K-pop fans do not like him and hence are not so supportive of the collab.

‘Didn’t see this collab coming’

Some fans were excited for the collab as they made tweets like, “Jay park and iu is the duo that i didnt know i needed! im all in for this collab,” “COLLABORATION OF THE YEAR,” and “I will admit I didn’t see this collab coming but I’m interested to hear the song.” One fan commented, “Best collaboration for sure, this two artists are not a joke, their vocals is incredible.”

But some fans are not happy as one fan posted, “There might be a way to stop this.” Another said, “You embarrassed me girl @_IUofficial i thought we were better than this.” One fan added, “Pls say sike.” Another said, “IU LOOK AT ME THIS IS NAWT YOU.”
