FX slammed for messing up 'Clipped' casting, but two stars get the thumbs up
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Clipped', the latest sports drama series on Hulu, concluded with Episode 6, on July 2, 2024.
Creator Gina Welch explores the aftermath of Donald Sterling's audio tape scandal that shook the basketball fraternity in 2014.
It sheds spotlight on Donald Sterling's relationship with V Stiviano and how a leaked audio tape of their private conversation led Sterling to forcibly sell LA Clippers.
While 'Clipped' could be a juicy haven for the NBA fans, those who have already finished the series have assembled on social media to share their reviews.
Fans criticize the casting in FX's 'Clipped'
The lead cast of 'Clipped' includes Ed O'Neill as Donald Sterling, Jackie Weaver as Shelly Sterling, Cleopatra Coleman as V Stiviano and Laurence Fishburne as Doc Rivers.
While majorly focusing on the Sterlings and Stiviano, the series also shows how the scandal impacted the players at Clippers including DeAndre Jordan (played by Sheldon Bailey), Blake Griffin (Austin Scott), JJ Redick (Charlie McElveen) among others.
Fans expressed extreme disappointment over the casting of 'Clipped'. An X user tweeted, "I’m convinced the terrible casting in Clipped was intentional. Cause FX got way too much money to be this bad lol."
"Man. That casting was truly bad lol. Is it genuinely asking for too much to get guys who look the part and can act, though? Idk," added someone else.

However, for some fans, the casting served the purpose with Laurence Fishburne and Jacki Weaver being the stars of the show.
A fan praised Fishburne's portrayal of Doc Rivers as he tweeted, "I’m only watching Clipped because of Laurence Fishburne. I love him as an actor (one of my fave actors) but this shit is dry."
"Jacki Weaver is just so so good," wrote another fan praising the actress who played Shelly Sterling.

People have been having a hard time to decide whether to call it a good show or a bad one. Giving a mixed review, a fan wrote, "The Clipped finale ends the show on a decent note, although it lacks a postscript of “Where are they now”. Overall, the show is a mixed bag."

It’s interesting to see how that time period is portrayed looking back though—it’s only like 10 years ago but seems like a lifetime
Those who weren't satisfied with the treatment of the scandal in the show didn't shy away from criticizing it on public forums.
In a tweet, a fan announced, "That Clipped show on FX has been some of the worst Television I’ve seen."
Another tweet reads, "FX usually makes good shows. Clipped looks like a CW show."
