Paramount+ confirmed on Wednesday that ‘Frasier’ will return for a new season with more shenanigans and with Kelsey Grammer will reprise his role as the Seattle psychiatrist-turned-radio host. However, fellow co-star David Hyde Pierce's neurotic Niles probably won't appear in the reboot. This comes even though Grammer has said in the past that he would do a 'Frasier' revival on two conditions. The first being that Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves and Peri Gilpin, who were also not confirmed to be joining the reboot, were all involved. And secondly, he would want to see the "next iteration" of his character "looking for love in a new city".

The only thing Paramount+ teased about the revival is that Frasier is “more exactly the same than ever,” without giving fans so much as an episode count, release date or a general storyline.

'No show without Niles'

Fans were quite displeased that Hyde Pierce wasn't confirmed to appear in the reboot and many agreed that there can't be a 'Fraiser' without Niles. "Without Niles in particular there is no show," said a Twitter user. "a Frasier reboot without David Hyde Pierce is like taking in a sumptuous meal at Le Cigar Volant and forgoing their exquisite Apple and Persimmon Tarte Tatin for dessert! it simply isn't done," said a tweet. "it’s important to me that people know we don’t care about kelsey grammer. give us david hyde pierce, jane leeves, and peri gilpin or we don’t want it," said another. One fan added, "No David Hyde pierce in the frasier reboot? Automatically makes it a flop sorry."

The actor was trending on Twitter in no time. "David Hyde Pierce is a master of farce, the most challenging of all comedy subgenres. His verbal and physical dexterity are peerless," said a fan. Some wondered why he wasn't going to be in the revival. "Plot twist: David Hyde Pierce isn't doing the Frasier reboot because he was cast as the replacement Gibby in the iCarly reboot," said a tweet.

Another fan quipped: "Without Niles Crane (David Hyde Pierce), the Jung component is missing from the brothers' Freudian-Jungian approaches to psychology. #Frasier." A Twitter user said a subscription to the streaming service was not worth the money for a show without Pierce. "So, people should pony up yet another $10/month for Paramount Plus so they can see a Frazier reboot without David Hyde Pierce? I don't think so. Too many subscription channels, not enough quality programs to make them WORTH the MONEY!"
