‘For Life’ Episode 9 Review: Can Aaron’s latest victory in court finally take down Maskins?

It remains to be seen if Aaron can finally take down Maskins or if he continues to suffer at the hands of the legal system trying to bring justice to his fellow inmates

Aaron Wallace’s (Nicholas Pinnock) life has been in the dark for a long time and despite endless attempts, his efforts have been in vain due to Glen Maskins’s (Brosi McGiver) manipulative ways.

In the previous episode for ‘For Life’ Senator Henry (Timothy Busfield) approaches Aaron with a new set of evidence concerning one of the wrongfully convicted prison inmates, which could expose the District Attorney officials and tamper Maksins’ upcoming political campaign.

In Episode 9 titled ‘Buried’, Henry manages to convince a cop’s wife to testify in the case Aaron was legally representing. When the opposition’s attempts at eliminating the witness’s statement fails, Aaron wins the case and cancels the wrongful incarceration of his fellow inmate.

Meanwhile, Safiya Masry (Indira Varma) interrogates Correctional Officer Foster about his role in the much-prevalent drug issues within the limits of the prison and his new association with Cassius Dawkins (50 Cent).

However, despite being threatened with suspension from the job, Foster chooses to fight against the prison board, refusing to put down his papers. While her position at the prison is threatened in the presence of the newly transferred inmate and his influence, her relationship with Anya Harrison (Mary Stuart Masterson) is further strained following Aaron’s victory in the recent case, which has thwarted Maskins’s plans for the upcoming campaign by acting against the sponsors.

Aaron’s role in freeing six of the wrongfully convicted prisoners has helped him more recognition in the media, thus shedding light on the inner working of the DA office.

However, his own freedom remains uncertain owing to the lack of evidence to support his case. The previous episodes saw him lose his chance at the trial when one of his close friends fails to appear in court to testify in his favor.

But, ‘Buried’ also sees Marie (Joy Bryant) and Jasmine Wallace (Tyla Harris) dig deep into the profile of the girl who overdosed at Aaron’s club, leading to his conviction.

Perhaps, Aaron’s family may get their hands on new information that could help him fight his case.

Also, Senator Henry despite having a cold feet stays by Aaron’s side during his latest representation. He has already succeeded in striking Maskins’s once. Considering his knowledge of the law and the close association with the DA officials, he might be able to help Aaron overturn his conviction.

Aaron who had lost all hopes after his previous trial returns in top form in ‘Buried’. The latest episode shows there’s no end to his determination, even if that requires him to put his own position at risk. Although he was well-aware of Maskins’s ways, as a diligent lawyer, he chooses to fight for the right cause, which made for a compelling plotline. The other possibility we could look forward to in the upcoming episode is the ultimate clash between Aaron and Dawkins, as the latter’s intentions are still unclear.  And, knowing how Dawkins is only driven by greed and power, there are also chances of his turning against Maskins, causing more damage to Makins’s political campaign.

With only an episode left until ‘For Life’ concludes, it remains to be seen if Aaron can finally take down Maskins or if he continues to suffer at the hands of the legal system trying to bring justice to his fellow inmates, who deserve a better chance at life.

‘For Life’ airs on Tuesdays on ABC.
