'Flower of Evil' Episode 5 sees Hyun-soo's life at risk as desperate Ji-won races against time to save him

'Flower of Evil' Episode 5 is a nail-biting ride as it reveals one twist after another, resulting in the past murders getting portrayed in an altogether different light

So far in 'Flower of Evil', we have been led to believe that Hyun-soo (Lee Joon-gi) who is currently living in disguise as Baek Hee-seong was wrongfully accused of being his father's accomplice in a serial murder case 18 years ago. However, at the beginning of the episode, we see Hyun-soo's old friend and reporter Kim Moo-jin find out from local sources in Yeongju that the reason why locals believe Hyun-soo to be have been a part of the serial murders was not that the village was a part of witch-hunting the criminal's family, but because there was a witness.

Moo-jin, who learns about this is shocked because he had come to believe that Hyun-soo had killed one man but was not involved in the crimes that his father had committed. We do not see how he reacts to this new piece of information, as there is more action unraveling after Hyun-soo gets kidnapped by the taxi driver who believes that Hyun-soo has information about his wife who was the last victim of Hyun-soo's father, according to police reports.

What is intriguing is that the day this last victim was kidnapped, there was a victim who recalled the information regarding the license plates of the car that the victim was forced into. However, on this day, Hyun-soo claims that he was with his father the whole day and repeats the same to the taxi driver as well. In fact, he repeats that he never lied about being his father's alibi and it is when the taxi driver throws a keychain with a figure of a fish in Hyun-soo's face, does he get shocked.

He recalls how his sister, on the day the funeral for his father was held, had given him an identical keychain. She had said that this keychain would bring him fortune and luck. What is strange is that this fish keychain apparently belonged to the taxi driver's wife and the same was with Hyun-soo too until he worked at the Chinese restaurant with the previous victim Nam Soon-gil. Also, this last victim's body was never recovered and this leads us to wonder if this victim was really killed by the same man.

If not, the taxi driver's claims will put Hyun-soo's sister in the crosshairs too. Could it have been her all along? Moo-jin had come upon the underground lair of Hyun-soo's father when he was hanging out with Hyun-soo's sister. Could it really have been here all this while? There is a lot of questions that we have as a result of the revelations that have surfaced this episode. Beyond all that, however, we wonder what Hyun-soo's condition will be.

Even as Ji-won (Moon Chae-won) found out that the victim was her husband and desperately tracked the taxi driver with the help of her team, Hyun-soo was drugged, stabbed, and tortured in various ways before he was tied down to the floor of the swimming pool and almost drowned. By the time Ji-won found the taxi driver's lair and arrived to rescue her husband, he was already submerged. She jumps in to save him right away, but her senior ends up getting stabbed by the taxi driver too. There is a tussle, the taxi driver is struck on his head and the episode ends with Ji-won desperately trying to save her husband. Will he wake up? We will have to watch out for the same in the upcoming episode.

'Flower of Evil' will air on tvN on Wednesday and Thursday at 10.50 pm KST and can be streamed on Viki Global.
