Game of Thrones’ fans, rejoice! If you believed that Season 1 of ‘House of the Dragon’ is the last time you are going to see the House Targaryen on your screen, then we have some really good news for you. HBO has realized the potential of the ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel and renewed it for Season 2 even though only one episode has been aired from the first edition. Now, that’s called confidence.

The network confirmed the news of renewal through a press release and announced that the show debuted to the largest audience for any new original series in the history of HBO. The statement also shared that a whopping 20 million viewers saw the first episode of ‘House of the Dragon’ across linear, On Demand, and HBO Max platforms in the US, according to Nielsen and first-party data collected by HBO.

Set 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen, the series chronicles the journey of House Targaryen and how it was brought down to its knees. The first episode was a strong return to the ‘GOT’ universe and made viewers realize that the show is in safe hands. A lot of people were skeptical about the show after ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8 failed to satisfy viewers and gave them an underwhelming finale. However, the numbers and the reactions to the ‘HOTD’ premiere were highly positive and fans are already anticipating the next episode.

As soon as the news of renewal surfaced online, fans went berserk and started sharing their excitement on social media by saying that ‘FIRE WILL REIGN AGAIN’. One of the fans wrote, “When you come out swinging like that, no wonder it's renewed. Pacing on point, writing on point, the cinematography on point, music by @Djawadi_Ramin as always on point.” Another fan noted, “We won YASSS.” Another social media user wrote, “I’m so happy! The premiere episode was a masterpiece and I can’t wait to see the rest of the reason. It’s going to be so faithful to the Fire and Blood book!”

Meanwhile, there were fans who were really to know surprised that HBO renewed the show after airing just one episode. One of the fans wrote, “Damn, that was fast. Good job.” Another fan wrote, “Lmao. Only one episode has dropped. When you're big, you're big.” Another social media user said, “After only 1 episode @HBO confirmed that fire will reign again for Season 2.”

The premiere took viewers on an enthralling journey and gave them a glimpse of how truly magnificent and huge House Targaryen was. However, there’s a lot happening inside those walls and as soon as Queen Aemma, the first wife of King Viserys, dies while giving birth, we get to see the real faces of some people. Ser Otto Hightower seems to be making schemes to move closer to the throne and uses his daughter Alicent Hightower to do his dirty work. On the other hand, Viserys has finally realized that his daughter Princess Rhaenyra is the most deserving HEIR to the throne and should be given a chance to lead. So, he broke all the stereotypes and made a young girl his heir to the Iron Throne.

We can’t wait for Episode 2 to arrive on HBO and see where the story takes us. For now, enjoy the ‘GOT’ universe and its brutality.

'House of the Dragon' returns to HBO with a new episode every Sunday at 9 pm EST.
