'DWTS' Season 31: Fans question country singer Jessie James Decker's song pick for her cha-cha performance
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jessie James Decker, a country music artist and the wife of former NFL great Eric Decker, joined the 'Dancing With The Stars' stage on September 19 with her partner Alan Bersten. Although fans thought her performance was fantastic, some said she was too distracted.
The last time the 34-year-old country singer appeared on television was in 2013, when she and husband Eric Decker starred in their own reality program, 'Eric & Jessie: Game On.' She's now collaborating with a different, but equally appealing leading guy, Alan Bersten, who knows a thing or two about winning. He and 'The Bachelorette' alum Hannah Brown were previously declared Season 28 champions in 2019. Many fans flocked to social media after her maiden performance on the show to applaud her dancing and even reprimanded the judges for underscoring her, while others thought there was something missing in her dance.

Decker and her partner Alan Bersten earned a standing ovation after dancing to a rendition of 'Sweet Home Alabama', a song that reminds her of home. Derek informs the pair that the movements might have been "more compact," adding that her legs should have been straighter in Cha Cha. Len believed it required powerful leg and hip motion. Bruno describes it as "racier than the Kentucky Derby," but she wanted to maintain the essence of the dance. Carrie Ann tells her that she must complete the movement. Jessie receives 5 from all judges, including Carrie Ann, Len, Derek, and Bruno, for a total of 20 out of 40.
Although a dance reality show, some fans couldn't keep Jessie's political affiliation out of it affecting her viewers' votes: "Will never vote for Jessie James Decker. She's a Maga hat wearing Trumper that refused to support BLM. Bye. #dwts." Slamming the judges for picking favorites, one fan wrote: "Jessie deserved better. Judges suck! They pick favorites every season! #dwts." Calling her performance 'hectic' and 'too rushed' another fan tweeted: "Jessie’s Cha Cha felt too rushed and hectic for me it felt more like a line dance than a Cha Cha #DWTS." Questioning Jessie's song pick, one viewer tweeted: "I get the song choice of Sweet Home Alabama because she’s a country singer, but not sure how I feel about it for a Cha Cha. I give Jessie’s first dance a 5 #DWTS."

On the other hand, some fans also questioned Jessies' overall 5-score: "Ooh. I would've given Jessie 6's. Was not perfect by a long shot, but not quite 5-level scores. #dwts #DWTS31 #DancingWiththeStars." Another fan in support of the singer tweeted: "Dang, why are we so hard on Jessie?! #dwts." Wishing she would stay more focused for her next performance, a fan wrote: "Jessie definitely has potential. She just needs to stay focused. #DWTS." Calling Jessie too jumpy, one fan wrote: "She was too jumpy/fluid, but she has a LOOOTTT of potential. Her and Alan could absolutely go far. She understands body placement and has fantastic personality out there! #dwts #DWTS31 #DancingWiththeStars."
