Fans are upset with Marlo Hampton of 'The Real Housewives of Atlanta' because she banished her teenage nephews from her home. They deride her on social media for refusing to acknowledge the emotions of the teenage boys whose mother has abandoned them.

Marlo comes up to the girls about her difficult circumstances at home in the newest episode of 'RHOA' Season 14. Marlo was previously reported to have been granted full custody of her nephews after her elder sister was sent to the hospital for bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. For the past two years, she has been caring for her nephews. Nevertheless, in the most recent 'RHOA' episode, which aired on July 11, it is revealed that Marlo admits to kicking her teen nephews out of her house after previously considering doing so owing to their bad behavior. Fans have turned to social media to criticize her for her poor choice of action.

During a furniture shopping spree, Marlo informs Sanya Richards-Ross and Shereé Whitfield that she has kicked the boys out for 30 days due to their terrible behavior. She sent them to her younger sister's place, explaining that she needed a break to avoid doing something she would later regret. She is in therapy to obtain help since things are so horrible. Furthermore, she appears to be aware of her emotional demands, yet she fails to address the issue correctly. Early in the episode, it is revealed that Marlo's nephews, Michael and William, have been acting out. They refuse to follow Marlo's commands and appear to be in trouble at school. Marlo gives them momentum by asking them to straighten out their actions. She offers to get them professional help if necessary but expects them to be on their best behavior. In a confessional, she admits that she is unaware of what she is doing or her parenting style, but her goal is to shape them into "stronger, sharper, independent young black men." She says that she is questioning all of her decisions, and subsequently tells Sanya and Shereé that she kicked the boys out of the house.

Later, during Shereé's slumber party, she reaches out to Kandi Burruss, with whom she had just had a falling out, and confronts her about her and the boys. Kandi is taken aback and tells her she should never have spoken such to the boys. Marlo claims to have gone through a lot recently and blames her recent behavior on family issues. Marlo explains that she needs some alone time before she can focus on the boys and their issues. She goes on to say that her troubles have led her to drink and seek counseling. Kandi reminds her that after the amazing life Marlo has provided for the boys, taking it from them is much worse. Marlo responds that she thought it was for the best at the time and that she felt she was losing herself. Kandi adds in a confessional that she admires Marlo for taking in those children despite not being a mother herself, but admits that she should have known better and that from now on she must put her feelings aside when caring for the boys.

Since the episode aired, fans on social media have voiced their displeasure with the situation, with many blaming Marlo for exploiting the boys for a storyline. A fan wrote: "Marlo is exploiting these boys for a storyline I see. #RHOA."

Another fan wrote: "Marlo’s nephews were a storyline for her. She doesn’t love them cuz she doesn’t love herself She kicked them out & publicly humiliated them on national tv cuz you can only hide your true self for so long That’s who she is: A terrible person #RHOA."

Another fan brought up the issue of Marlo always talking about her time growing up in the system and how it affected her childhood but failing to provide a better life for the kids. They wrote, "Marlo’s the same one who’s constantly reminding someone she grew up in foster care and how it affects her, and what does she do? Give her nephews away to her sister #RHOA."

One fan felt that the experience for the boys must have been traumatizing as they wrote, "Marlo kicking her nephews out the house, particularly when they already have absent parents is disgusting to me. It's traumatizing. It reads you are not worthy of my love / support when you don't do what I want. It really speaks to her character or lack thereof. #RHOA Marlo."

A fan went as far as to call out Marlo for being abusive towards her friends and family. Their tweet read: "So Marlo just shamed her nephews on national television. Of course they’re acting out they just had yet another traumatizing experience from their mother. You say you don’t want them to feel that feeling of not being wanted, then kick them out for a month? Yikes. #RHOA."

Fans found it baffling for Marlo to abandon her nephews given she admits of growing up with abandonment issues herself. They wrote: "Marlo had abandonment issues growing up; turns around and abandons her nephews whenever she has a bad day. #RHOA."
