'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition': David Bromstad ditched his vibrant art style as Holtzclaws wanted serenity

In a chat with MEA WorldWide, David said he wanted to create a painting that was calm and peaceful and easy to look at

David Bromstad is not just a design star and a television personality, he is also a talented artist who brings his unique artistic skills to each of his projects. Even though his art style is all about vibrancy and bold colors, for his piece on 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' he decided to take a different route.

The Holtzclaw family's house was being done up and given a color tone that was more on the muted side. "I went for muted tones because the family requested something calm and peaceful and serene," David told MEA WorldWide (MEAWW) in an interview. He added that bright colors don't coincide with calm and peaceful, which was why he went for something that would be easy to look at.

The experience was equally emotional for David as it was for everyone on the show and those watching it. He said watching the people put in the effort and the family's smile left him inspired.

Even though he is clued into what's trending in the design world, David said he was on the show just as a tool. He had asked the channel to use his skills in whichever way they deemed fit. "So they put me to work doing a piece of artwork which is right in my wheelhouse. So I was thrilled to be a part of that and to leave my stamp with this amazing family," the artist added.

David was also all praises about the design team — Darren Keefe, Carrie Locklyn and Breegan Jane — who he thought was incredible for being so much in sync with what's happening in design. "They have such a great grasp on what’s happening right now in design and how to properly put that into people's homes in a usable way," he said.

When asked about one favorite corner in the new Holtzclaw house, David couldn't just spot. He joked how he "loved the kitchen which overflowed into the family room which overflowed into the dining room. That’s my favorite corner. I know that’s the majority of the house but that’s my answer."

David is the winner of 'Design Star' Season 1 and was the host of 'Color Splash'.
