'Extraction 2': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about the sequel to Chris Hemsworth's film
Chris Hemsworth starrer action-thriller 'Extraction' has become one of the most-watched films on Netflix. And there's good news for the fans who enjoyed the action film — Joe Russo has closed a deal to write another installment of the high action film. Those who watched the film know that the ending did not provide any closure, and left the opportunity for Rake to return. Many of the characters had backstories, so there is quite the possibility that the first film was just a prequel.
Release date
The first film released on April 24, 2020, on Netflix. Though the second film has been announced, it is unclear when it will be released, as almost all productions and studios are on hold due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Plot details
Joe Russo told Deadline, "We’re not committing yet to whether that story goes forward, or backward in time. We left a big loose ending that leaves question marks for the audience." So it remains to be seen whether the next film could be either an origin story for certain characters or a sequel and give the much-required closure.
Cast
There is no deal yet with Chris Hemsworth, as Joe Russo said that he has to work out the script first. This probably might not be too difficult to get the 'Avengers' actor in again, as Hemsworth has shown much enthusiasm this weekend when he told followers that the film garnered Netflix’s biggest opening day audience and is to be watched by 90 million households over the next four weeks. The rest of the cast hasn't been decided yet.
Creators
The Russo brothers directed the Marvel mammoth 'Avengers Endgame', which became the highest-grossing film ever, surpassing James Cameron's 'Avatar' and 'Titanic.' The first 'Extraction' was directed by Sam Hargrave, and the Russos expect him to return for the second film as well. Hargrave has worked with the Russos before. Joe Russo told Deadline, "There was always a simple drive to the story, a balletic execution of action where you take a damaged character who made an egregious mistake in the past and has a shot at redemption which might be fatal. What was key is that we needed a muscular action director like Sam to be the main creative force in the execution of the action."
