'Everything's Gonna Be Okay': Josh Thomas says his love for a man is why Nicholas is an entomology enthusiast
Contains spoilers for Season 1
Josh Thomas' 'Everything's Gonna Be Okay' has already made waves in the relatable comedy cohort, but there is another thing that also has people talking. If you have watched the show, you may have noticed that at least one bug makes a special cameo in every episode so far. The names of the episodes are the names of the bugs that make the cameo. You may be wondering what the bugs have to do with the show?
Nicholas (Josh Thomas), a tween that is now a guardian to his recently orphaned half-sisters Genevieve (Maeve Press) and Matilda (Kayla Cromer), is an entomologist on the show. For those of you that had to google it too, that means that he is an expert on the zoology branch of insects. As wholesome as the posters of the show are — with each character having their own personal bug — what do the bugs bring to the show or Nichola's character? We try and find out.
When asked about how he came about wanting to associate Nicholas's character with entomology, Josh Thomas told reporters, "Do you want to know why he is an entomologist? It's because once I was in the shower with a boy and he was leaving me. I liked him, but he was leaving me to go into the forest to learn about grasshoppers for the next six months, so I couldn't see him again. And I thought, that is a really charming job and I’m going to steal it and make it mine on the next TV show."
So far, four episodes have aired and their titles were as follows — 'Seven-spotted Lady Bug,' 'Green Bottle Blue Tarantula,' 'Giant Asian Mantises' and 'Silkmoths'. The cast most likely had an interesting set to work on with crawlers everywhere, and they recently each revealed to reporters what their favorite bugs on set were.
Adam Faison, who plays the role of Alex, the dental student who is head-over-heels for Josh, shared his rather unsettling stories. "Well I guess mine is pretty daunting. As you can see I have a freaking tarantula on my head." Thing is that Tarantula wasn't just any Tarantula, this one was famous.
"The first day when we got it, I was definitely a little bit scared. But then Diana Terranova who is this really dope bug wrangler, who’s just out of this world, used that same one in the Billie Eilish music video, and that's the one she puts in her mouth. I was, like, "Well if she's putting it in her mouth, I'm fine with putting it on my freaking arm." So, yeah, that kind of assuaged any fears that I had of that big guy," Faison shared about his experience.
Apparently the spider was a cast favorite with Kayla Cromer (Matilda). She said, "I wanted the tarantula on my head." Meanwhile, a gushing Josh Thomas said, "I love that spider. I’m like fond of that spider the same way you would be like a bunny rabbit. We named her Stephanie after my producer."
Cromer chimed in on her favorite insect saying, "I was always the first person, when I would know that we were filming a bug scene, I’d go straight over to Diana and see what bugs do we have today. She’d give me all these interesting facts. But my favorite, we’re holding that rare scorpion that actually shoots out venom. And it was crawling up my arm, and I just thought it was the best thing ever, and all the tarantulas."
Maeve Press, who plays the role of Genevieve, talked about the green beauties. "I fell in love with the praying mantis. I wanted it in every single scene I did, and they wouldn’t let me have it. But I highly suggest you all go and play with a praying mantis. They're beautiful and I love them. When you hold the praying mantis on your hand and it reaches for you, which is just so adorable. Oh, I love it. I could do it all day."
'Everything's Gonna Be Okay' airs every Thursday at 7.30 pm CST on Freeform.
