'Supermarket Sweep': Teams Cheddar, Thyme and Fried Chicken battle it out in Halloween special episode
'Supermarket Sweep' is back with new episodes and its trick or treat special for Halloween. Team Cheddar, Team Thyme and Team Fried Chicken are the first three teams to play this Halloween special segment.
First off, we have Michael and Anttoni from Team Thyme. Michael and Anttoni found each other again on an online dating app, sometime after they had broken off. “Did you find him on Grindr?” asks host Leslie Jones, “I was on Grindr just in time,” replies Anttoni.
.@Lesdoggg dropping @Grindr knowledge on #SupermarketSweep is 🤯🤩🤣

Harvard graduates Chaela and Erika formed Team Cheddar, and when they say cheddar they mean money, not cheese. And, Team Fried Chicken with Angelique and Elizabeth. The duo became friends when they made a random plan one day to go for an ‘all you can eat fried chicken’ for $5. “If it was $5, it was probably not chicken,” Leslie remarks. Team Fried Chicken wants to have its own grocery store someday. Finding the chicken comment hilarious, a fan writes tagging Leslie on Twitter, that she is killing it, “I cracked up at the $5 fried chicken buffet...No all-you-can-eat fried chicken buffet will be just $5. You’re just going to eat rat and not care.”

The smaller sweep begins before the big sweep like the pattern of the show has been, allowing the participants to buy extra time and points before they move on to the big sweep. The two teams with more points get to do the big sweep and then the last team standing with the most points gets to do one last sweep and win a total of $100,000.
In the first round one member from each team plays a guessing game where the names of two brands of items are combined and they have to guess the original names of the items. For example, ‘Spappy’ is ‘Spam’ + ‘Skippy’; ‘Golden Dongs’ is ‘Golden grahams’ + ‘Ding Dongs’ and ‘Lucky Valley’ is ‘Lucky Charms’ and ‘Nature Valley’. While a fan ‘ROLF’ at Golden Dongs another said, “Did they just pay @Lesdoggg to say Golden Dongs on National TV?! Yes they did!”

For the ‘Stop Faking It’ round, contestants had to guess which flavor certain food items "doesn’t" come in. M&Ms do not come in Maple Walnut flavour (although we wish it would), passionfruit chapstick doesn't exist and don’t know how everybody feels about blue marble cake mix. The participants guessed most of it right. A fan was still sceptical about the new games and wrote, “I don't know how I feel about these new games.” While another wrote, “I'm living in a world where you can make M&M's and Oreos in any flavour.”

For the ‘Leslie Moji’ round participants guessed grocery items from emojis. Dancing girl emoji and punching emoji became ‘Hawaiian Punch’ and guess what a door emoji, a person emoji and a toast emoji makes? Doritos! Writer Philip Louie tweeted in approval of the emoji round saying, “I like this emoji round robin game.”

Before the big sweep, team members dress up in their Halloween costumes with Team Thyme in the lead followed by Team Cheddar and Team Fried Chicken. By the end of the sweeps, Team Thyme was leading with maximum points of $4427, Team Fried Chicken was at $3212 and Team Cheddar was at $2552. Commenting on Team Thyme’s total grocery cost, a fan tweeted, “$4,427 is gigantic. And a sign of inflation in the past 30 years.” While another wrote, “I remember when the scores in the 90s was 900 bucks. Inflation man!”

Even though Team Thyme could not win the last challenge to sweep away $100,000 because they couldn't guess the clue given to them hidden in the groceries, “I’m a sweet treat from Switzerland that goes by the name ---”. The answer to that is Lindt Chocolate. Someone wrote, “I forgot all about Lindt Chocolates.”
