The 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards was hosted live virtually on ABC by Jimmy Kimmel and as the awards night concluded with its final trophy for Outstanding Drama Series, Sterling K Brown appeared on stage to hand it out to the winner.

While opening the envelope, he appeared to be taken aback and wondered why ‘This Is Us’ wasn't even nominated. Well, that's not all, after announcing ‘Succession’ as the Best Drama, he even joked: "This is embarrassing." The other TV shows in that category were: 'Better Call Saul', 'Killing Eve', 'Ozark', 'Stranger Things', 'The Crown', 'The Handmaid's Tale' and 'The Mandalorian'.

Well, the sentiment was echoed by on Twitter as well as fans wondered why the NBC drama series wasn't even nominated. "And why wasn't #ThisIsUs nominated for Best Drama this year, btw? They had their very best season last year. Without an audience to chortle, I took Sterling K. Brown's rant seriously. Congrats to #Succession anyway. #Emmys #BestDrama," one tweet read. Another said, "No surprise there... Not deserving but the bigger crime here? THIS IS US wasn't even nominated... Can the #Emmys even be trusted?" One even went on to say: "Uhhhhhhh didn’t he say Succession? (In the joke) Did he mean to say This Is Us? I am confusion #Emmys."

Many others stood up for Brown and agreed that 'This Is Us' should have been nominated. "I think #ThisIsUs should have won #Emmys too! I’m with you Sterling K Brown!" one tweet read. Another said, "Sterling K Brown will be on time for work tomorrow with no complaints...  But he's right - This Is Us shoulda been at least nominated ffs #Emmys." One fan said, "I love @SterlingKBrown with my whole heart and This Is Us deserved a nom. #Emmys."

Showering him with compliments, one fan posted, "Sterling K. Brown playing a great bit by accepting for #ThisIsUs, a series that wasn't nominated for Outstanding Drama Series. #Emmys." Another mocked the entire fiasco and said, "Sterling K Brown is a king also This is Us DESERVES ALL AWARDS #Emmys."

Clearly, it wasn't Sterling K Brown's year. But, there's always next time, isn't there?
