Emmys 2020: Jeremy Strong dubbed 'most deserving winner' of the night for playing the 'tortured Kendall Roy'

‘Succession’ star Jeremy Strong just took home the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series award for his role as the middle child Kendall Roy on Season 2 of HBO's popular series. This was his first nomination as well as win.

He said in his speech, "Thank you to the academy, thank you to HBO. Wow. I got to thank some people who have been there for me and believed in me when something like this felt basically impossible." He added, "I read a poem... that said, 'All I ever wanted was a book so good I'd be finishing it for the rest of my life'. This job is that for me." He didn’t forget to thank his colleagues, "Jesse Armstrong, I owe this to you. Brian Cox, I share this with thank you so much."

His fellow nominees, apart from his onscreen father Brian Cox, included Jason Bateman ('Ozark'), Sterling K Brown ('This Is Us'), Steve Carell ('The Morning Show') and Billy Porter ('Pose').

Fans were ecstatic ad expressed their happiness on social media. Canadian sportscaster Adnan Virk said, "Yes Jeremy Strong!!! Most deserved winner of the night for playing the tortured Kendall Roy." One fan wrote: "This is the best thing that happened in the #Emmys and I still can't move on JEREMY STRONG, EMMY WINNER!" Another said, "Congrats to #JeremyStrong aka Kendall Roy aka #1 boy #Succession #Emmys."

A fan noted, "Jeremy Strong and Succession finally getting the recognition and the credit they deserve!!!!!!!" A user said, "So glad I recently binge-watched #SuccessionHBO. Wickedly funny and intense series. Figured it would be a toss-up between Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong...looks like the Roy boy won IRL." Strong plays Logan Roy’s second-oldest son and was in the running to succeed the family-owned media company Waystar Royco, after his father's retirement. But when his father hesitates, Kendall fights back leading to a series of office and family politics.
