Dwayne Johnson compares Henry Cavill's exit as Superman to 'football team' under new management

One of the most memorable moments of the awards ceremony was when Dwayne Johnson finally broke his silence and expressed his thoughts on Henry Cavill's exit as Superman.

In an interview given to Variety at the Red Carpet of the 95th Academy Awards. the 'Black Adam' star opened up about his movie and Henry Cavill's exit, comparing the recasting to a "football team playing under new management."

Johnson told Variety, "All that I could do, and that we could do when we were making 'Black Adam' was put our best foot forward, surround ourselves with the best people, and then also deliver the best movie we could. Our audience score was in the 90s, critics took a couple of shots—that's just the business of it though."
Johnson likened the Cavill's situation to a football team directed by a new taken over by new management who decides to replace the coach and the quarterback.
He added, "I think it's almost like when you have a pro-football team and your quarterback wins championships, the head coach wins championships and then you have a new owner. And a new owner comes in and says, 'not my coach, not my quarterback. I'm gonna go with somebody new."
Will Henry Cavill return as Superman?
The 'Black Adam' star tried to bring back Henry Cavill as Superman in his 2022 film. Cavill reprised the role of Clark Kent aka Superman in Johnson's new film for the first time since 2017's 'Justice League' However, the comeback was only for a post-credit scene and short-lived after James Gunn unveiled his vision for the Man of Steel. The new film, titled 'Superman: Legacy,' will focus on a younger version of the comic book character and is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
