Spoilers for 'Doom Patrol' Season 2 Episode 3 'Pain Patrol'

'Doom Patrol' Season 2 has just started out and we already appear to have lost a valued member of the team. Danny the Street has undergone a lot of loss recently, being reduced to a single brick and now it looks like their long life may have finally come to an end. In Episode 3 'Pain Patrol', Dorothy Spinner's (Abigail Shapiro) game of hide-and-seek ends tragically when Danny the Brick was accidentally dropped and broken in two. But is this the end for everyone's favorite genderqueer urban spirit?

Well, it is unlikely that an important figure like Danny would have been killed off so unceremoniously and we do see the Chief / Niles Caulder (Timothy Dalton) attempt to fix Danny. In all probability, Danny will be back and with a bit of luck, they may even become greater than ever.

In the DC Young Animal book 'Doom Patrol' by Gerard Way (yes, the 'My Chemical Romance' Gerard Way), Danny is reduced to a brick and eventually used to kill a god. That event transforms Danny into the extremely powerful Danny the World. There is a possibility that the show might also do something similar with Danny. It would be nice to see Danny elevated to such a high station and after all, they're too kind and loving a piece of sentient urban geography to allow them to just die off.

Danny's "death" did appear to deeply disturb Dorothy and she is feeling pretty guilty about it. And while the Chief did try to console her, there's always the possibility that she might summon the Candlemaker to fix Danny, which might just be enough to free the malevolent spirit. The Candlemaker has been teased as the main villain for this season and Danny might play a major role in defeating it. But for now, it does appear as if Danny is out of action and we're going to be eagerly waiting to see what becomes of our beloved brick.

'Doom Patrol' Season 2 streams on Thursdays on both DC Universe and the new streaming service HBO Max.
