'Don't Look Up' Ending Explained: Did [Spoiler] manage to survive extinction?
Adam McKay’s satirical comedy ‘Don’t Look Up’ has finally made its way to Netflix and fans are absolutely loving the film for its funny yet riveting storyline. The movie revolves around the duo of Dr. Randall (Leonardo DiCaprio), an astronomy professor, and Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence), one of his students, who make an astounding discovery that a comet is on course to hit the Earth and people have only six months and 14 days to do something about it.
Named after the person who discovered the comet, Comet Dibiasky, is inching toward the earth and as good scientists, they both give the information to the government. They tell how dangerous the situation is, but President Orlean (Meryl Streep) and his son Jason (Jonah Hill), who is also the Chief of Staff, don’t take their readings seriously because of the upcoming elections. Dr Oglethorpe (Rob Morgan), who’s the only one supporting them from the government side tells them to leak the news to the media so that everyone gets to know about it. They did leak the news, but it didn’t get the reaction from people like scientists expected.

Will they be able to make everyone understand the magnitude of this problem? Or no one will listen to them and walk toward their doom? Let’s see how the movie concluded.
‘Don’t Look Up’ Ending Explained: Did people believe Randall and Kate?
The duo went to one of the morning news shows and discussed how dangerous the situation was. They also shared how the government is trying to cover it up because of the upcoming elections. The reporters, Brie Evantee (Cate Blanchett) and Jack Bremmer (Tyler Perry) don’t take it too seriously and want to talk about it in a fun way. But Kate gets furious with this and screams loudly how everything should be not be taken lightly and people should be terrified right now.
Meanwhile, one of the people from NASA says that their readings are “false”. But it turns out that the person is a supporter of the President and one of the highest donors.
When Orlean becomes involved in a sex scandal, she announces the threat of the comet to divert attention. She comes on TV and announces that with the help of these scientists (Kate, Randall, and Oglethorpe) they are going to send a rocket to the comet, along with nukes, and avert the danger. The announcement takes her popularity to a whole new level and she is now being hailed as a hero by everyone. Everyone is ready for the operation to start and the rocket has been launched. The entire room is happy that they will be safe now. However, the operation is canceled mid-flight when Peter Isherwell (Mark Rylance), a tech billionaire and prominent funder of Orlean, discovers that the comet is composed of trillions of dollars worth of precious minerals that have become scarce on Earth.
Suddenly, the White House announces a plan that they will be exploiting the comet by crushing it into small pieces and recovering the fragments. There is an elaborate plan for that and they have roped in Nobel prize-winning scientists to do the work. Randall was not in favor of this, but when he hears the names and the plan, he gets to know that nothing is in his hands now. He becomes one of the voices of their plan and as a result, Kate and Oglethorpe leave the mission.
However, things change when Randall sees that his people are being taken off the project. On the other hand, his wife gets to know that he had sex with Brie. In anger, he voices his frustrations on live television, launching into a rant criticizing Orlean's administration for downplaying the apocalypse. He is taken off the grid and reconciles with Kate.
Orlean and Isherwell’s plan to recover the comet’s materials fails and everyone knows that they are doomed now. Isherwell, with the help of Orlean, created a spaceship for taking some people out of the planet if something catastrophic occurs. Orlean, Isherwell, and a bunch of wealthy people get on board and leave the planet.
On the other hand, Randall and his entire family have dinner one last time. Kate, Teddy, and Yule (Timothee Chalamet) are also present there. They share stories about each other as the comet strikes. The whole world is destroyed as the spaceship carrying some of the people has managed to evade the destruction.
After more than 22,000 years, people in cryosleep, land on a planet that’s habitable. They take a look at the surrounding environment only to immediately be attacked and killed by the planet's wild animals. In the post-credits scene, Jason is shown to have survived the extinction of life on Earth, wondering if his mother is still coming back, and documents the aftermath on his phone.
