BBC America is set to premiere the Doctor Who special titled 'The Faceless Ones', which according to reports will "fill in the gaps of the missing serial from the fourth season" of the British sci-fi series that had starred Patrick Troughton as the titular character. The series had originally broadcasted in 1967 but the videos for some episodes were said to be destroyed. Now, with audio recordings from every episode, the series is set to take up it's animated form to tell the entire story. Here is what we know of the upcoming animated special.

Release date

'Doctor Who: The Faceless Ones' will air over two days — on October 7 and 8, 2020.

Plot

TVguide has listed the synopsis as: "'The Faceless Ones' finds the Doctor and his companions taking on sinister identity-stealing aliens known as the Chameleons after the TARDIS arrives on Earth on a runway at Gatwick Airport. The BBC film archive only has two of the six episodes, but there are snippets of footage and still images existing from the other four. Off-air recordings of the soundtrack also still exist, which made animation of the complete serial possible."

Cast

Patrick Troughton as The Doctor

Troughton is known for his roles as Father Brennan from the 'The Omen' (1976), Phineas from 'Jason and the Argonauts' (1963), Dr Who from 'Doctor Who' (1966-1985) and Klove from 'Scars of Dracula. He also plays The Doctor in 'Doctor Who: The Macra Terror' (2019).

The rest of the cast includes Anneke Wills as Polly, Michael Craze as Ben, Colin Gordon as The Commandant and Frazer Hines as Jaime.

Creators

The series is directed by Gerry Mill and AnneMarie Walsh with David Ellis and Malcom Hulke serving as writers. Paul Hembury and Rebecca Richmond serve as executive producers, Innes Lloyd and Walsh serve as producers and Peter Bryant serves as associate producer.

Trailer

The trailer shows how the Doctor along with comrades wants to stop the Chameleons who are aliens from their sinister activities, but unfortunately, they want him dead. Fans of the long-running series will be excited to see this animation come to life, and the trailer looks very promising in its narrative to deliver the 1967 original.
