'Do you like Brahms?' Episode 7: Jung-kyung lies to Hyeon-ho that she slept with Joon-young, Song-ah overhears
'Do you like Brahms?' Episode 7 begins with Chae Song-ah (Park Eun-bin) confessing to Park Joon-young (Kim Min-jae) that she likes him. Initially, both Song-ah and Joon-young are shocked with her confession, but Joon-young takes his time and responds that at the moment because he is dealing with many things at a time including his childhood friend and first love Jung-kyung, he asks her for some time. He asks Song-ah to wait for him. Having gone through the same kind of emotions herself, which were directed towards Dong-yoon, she understands why Joon-young would need time. So she agrees and this agreement brings forth a period where Song-ah and Joon-young spend some great time together.
However, this sweet period doesn't last too long. First, it is Jung-kyung, who for some reason believes that she is in love with Joon-young just as he is with her and she even goes to the extent of breaking up with her boyfriend of over 10 years — Hyeon-ho. Hyeon-ho and Jung-kyung have an argument about their relationship at the university where Song-ah and Joon-young are attending their final semester. Joon-young coincidentally overhears this argument and tries to stop his friends from taking things too far but is instead caught between Jung-kyung and Hyeon-ho. When Hyeon-ho asks if the two of them slept together in New York and if that was the reason why they lied about not meeting each other, Jung-kyung says yes and this shocks Joon-young more than anybody else.
You see, nothing of that sort had happened. It was only a peck on the lips and that in itself had caused a lot of pain in Joon-young who had always been in love with Jun-kyung. However, by using his feelings to hurt someone else, Jung-kyung has stooped down too low and even she realizes it. The problem, however, is that Song-ah had overheard their entire conversation. While she believes Joon-young when he tells her that nothing of what Jung-kyung had said had taken place in New York, she understands that the tie between Joon-young and Jung-kyung is not something that can be cut off that soon or that easily.
So, this is exactly what Song-ah tells Joon-young. She tells him that while she can wait for him, she cannot wait while knowing full well that he is still not completely over Jung-kyung. This in addition to Joon-young strictly drawing a line between Song-ah and himself when professors ask if they are dating hurts Song-ah deeply. He is doing it in her best interest to avoid her becoming a topic of gossip. However, Song-ah still tells him that it upset her to hear him deny vehemently. He explains that he did it out of concern for her, however, Song-ah explains to him that this is as bad as him leading her on. She tells him that she would prefer if he did not take notice of things that would affect her so that she doesn't get further confused about where he stands.
Is Joon-young really not over Jung-kyung though? In the same episode, when Jung-kyung approaches him to play the piano for her showcase, which is a part of the interview process to be selected as a professor for the university, he refuses straight out. After all, she did lie about their relationship and caused a misunderstanding to occur between Joon-young and the only friend he had had. There is also the fact that he has now come to realize how much his feelings for Jung-kyung had hurt Song-ah without him intending it to. So he might avoid anything that would cause her pain if she were really interested in Song-ah and this is something we will see in the upcoming episode.
