Lifetime’s upcoming thriller movie ‘Deranged Granny’ is sure to spook the viewers. Featuring a grandmother obsessed with her protecting her grandchildren, it will be quite a ride watching how the tension builds up in the family with once the matriarch goes overboard with her antics. She isn't your normal loving and warm granny and the subversion of this idea itself provides all the suspense you need. Before the film releases, let us take a look to see what you can expect from the thriller.

Release date

 ‘Deranged Granny’ releases on September 12 at 8 pm ET on Lifetime.


As per Lifetime, the film is about how Barbara finds her last hope to be a grandmother when her son, Ethan, falls for Kendall, a divorcee with her kids. At first, kept at arm’s length, Barbara quickly infiltrates the family by using immoral tactics to win over Kendall’s kids. Further, the unannounced visits escalate to a heinous crime as Barbara will do anything to protect her bond with her grandchildren. With her life in danger, Kendall must outsmart her mother-in-law to save her children and expose Barbara for who she really is. 


The main cast of the show has Amanda Righetti, known for her role in ‘The Mentalist’ who will be playing Kendall and Wendie Malick known for her role in the sitcom ‘Dream On’ who will be playing Barbara. Besides them, it will have Dave Baez of ‘Dexter’ fame and Josh Ventura whose roles are right now undisclosed.

The Utah born actor/producer and Best Actress Award winner by the New York International Independent Film & Video Festival, Righetti is known for her roles in ‘North Shore’ (2004), ‘Friday the 13th’ (2009) and ‘The Mentalist’ (2008). In 2015, she has been ranked among FHM's 100 Sexiest Women while portraying ‘Jenna Moretti’ in the popular drama, Reunion (2005) as per IMDb. She has also had guest appearances in popular television shows such as 'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation' (2000) and HBO's 'Entourage' (2004).

Wendie Malick

The New York-born actress, Malick, has essayed Judith Tupper Stone in the HBO comedy ‘Dream On’ (1990) for which she won four CableACE Awards as Best Actress in a Comedy Series as per IMDb. Malick reached the peak of stardom with her comic role in sitcom ‘Just Shoot Me!’ (1997). She has previously starred in the  series ‘Trauma Center’ (1983), Good Company (1996), Baywatch (1989), Kate & Allie (1984), and Frasier (1993). Malick's canyon of work includes her roles in films like ‘The American President (1995), Scrooged (1988), and Bugsy (1991). 


The movie ‘Deranged Granny’ is part of Lifetime thriller movies and is directed by Jennifer Liao. The director has previously directed the drama series ‘Blood and Water’ which bagged 3 nominations at the 2019 Canadian Screen Awards, including Best Drama Series. IMDb mentions that her short movies as a director, writer, and producer have been screened at festivals all across the globe, and have been broadcasted on CBC, Bravo!, and Air Canada. Liao was chosen as one of the 12 filmmakers in the 2018/19 TIFF Writers' Studio as per the site.
