According to Dennis McKinley's LinkedIn profile, he kicked off his career as Chief Content Officer at HooplaSouth. He worked with the brand from 2009 to 2012 before he left in May 2012 to launch his own business. In June 2012, McKinley started QueenVirginRemy, a distributor company of exotic hair extensions. While still running his hair extensions distribution company, he ventured into the food and beverage segment by acquiring The Original Hot Dog Company in 2015.
His hot dog business took off and became a massive success, thanks to its franchising model. The brand's website states that the Original Hot Dog Company is spread across 15 locations. "I decided to open multiple locations in Atlanta because it's the best city in the country right now for franchise owners to thrive. It was important to me to choose high-growth areas and hot dog cities when identifying new potential locations. I'm on target to have 95 more locations to open in the next 24-36 months and I'm proud to say 100 per cent of our franchise owners are people of color," McKinley explained.
In 2018, he launch Detroit Equities to focus on helping eager, hard-working entrepreneurs around the world with great ideas. Presently, McKinley runs several successful businesses in real estate, e-commerce, licensing and business, product development, leadership, and hospitality. He was recently named a partner of Nyak Cognac.
