The pilot episode of NBC’s latest sci-fi series ‘Debris’ was a fascinating throwback to shows like ‘The X-Files’ and ‘Fringe’. However, it would need to keep the viewers glued to the TV screens for a longer period of time to achieve the success that the aforementioned titles did. The episode ended with a massive disclosure that Agent Finola’s (Riann Steele) father, who she believes has been dead for years, is actually alive and has associated himself with the bad guys.

The only two people to know the truth of his existence are Craig Maddox (Norbert Leo Butz) and Bryan Beneventi (Jonathan Tucker), who is Finola’s partner in the “Debris” investigation. Maddox tells Bryan that Finola’s father, George Jones (Tyrone Benskin), is alive and has taken a different identity to enter the US. Maddox has told Bryan to not disclose this information to Finola for the sake of the investigation.

But it is difficult for him to keep it a secret because they are working together on a case that is closely connected to Finola’s father.

Why is Bryan reluctant to tell Finola about her father's existence?

In the pilot episode, Finola said that George was the first astrophysicist in the world to know about the “Debris” cloud and every minor detail about it. It becomes clear that George has all the details about the mysterious alien wreckage that descended on earth. The biggest reason for Bryan not telling Finola about her father is the “mission” itself. The US and the UK are working together to debunk all the unknown facts about the wreckage and George can be a huge help in attaining all the information.

The CIA knows that he is alive, but MI6 doesn’t. So, the CIA would not want MI6 to get their hands on George in order to have superior technology for their country. With the help of George, they could use the “Debris” to make advanced weapons for their military and use them in the wars that might come their way in the future. Also, this would make them a true superpower. That's why Bryan's boss orders him to keep this a secret.

On the other hand, Finola knows that the Americans will try to put their foot in everything and is cautious of every move that Bryan makes. Despite all this, both share a good friendship with each other. But things will definitely change once Finola gets to know that Bryan knew about her father.

One more reason that might be compelling Bryan to keep the information a secret is George’s well-being. If Finola gets to know about her father, she would want to meet him and know why did he lie to her. The situation might get dangerous for George and the bad guys might not even think twice before killing him for real this time.

Will anyone else find out about Finola’s father?

As of now, there are a few people who know George is still alive. The CIA, Bryan and a gang of bad guys who are also trying to get their hands on the “Debris” know that George is essential for them to secure a big victory in this investigation and now that the CIA know about his survival, there would be a whole lot of people that would be interested in getting to him.

It would be interesting to see how the CIA will rope in George on their side.Assuming that we’ll see more of George in the upcoming episodes, it will be intriguing to see why he is with the bad guys now.

'Debris' returns with Episode 2 on Monday, March 8, at 10 pm ET.
