It hasn't been the greatest of starts for Cornelia Marie's young skippers Josh Harris and Casey McManus. And despite a strapping young crew, some major upgrades to their ship and a tribute to the crab gods, they had to return empty-handed in their initial attempt. As if that wasn't frustrating enough, they have a failed portside main engine issue that needs to be fixed stat.

In a sneak peek provided by Discovery titled 'Moment of Truth', we see the Cornelia Marie navigating the rough seas that leaves Josh scared. "I have no nails to bite," he says as they charge into the jaws of the Hagibis, a deadly storm to retrieve the pots they had left a week before.

It is revealed the target king quota was 70,000 lbs, and McManus hopes they rope in a 200 average to finish the quota in one string with a guffaw. "I don't think that's gonna happen, but if we get 30 or 40 out of them, I'd be extremely happy," he says. With things looking pretty much south, only a miracle can still keep them in the competition as they have stiff opponents in Russia and the remaining six skippers from the USA.

The clip ends with a pot coming up, but the contents aren't shown. "This is the moment of truth," mumbles Josh as he hopes to strike paydirt.

Ahead of the start of the season, Cornelia Marie with Josh Harris and Casey McManus was the cynosure of all eyes as they went heavy on technology to upgrade their boat. Their manpower received a boost in the form of a 25-year-old Alaskan native Maria, who Harris dubbed as their "secret weapon".  So far, what they have seen is a snag early in the quest, and only time will tell how they look at overcoming these obstacles to get a lead in the race.

What are your thoughts on Cornelia Marie and its skippers running into trouble early in the season?

'Deadliest Catch' Season 16 airs Tuesday at 8 pm ET on Discovery.
