'Batwoman' fans suffered a shock when actress Ruby Rose, who played the red-haired crusader, decided to leave The CW show. Her character Kate Kane had found appreciation among millions and there had been much anticipation for a darker and more rattling Season 2. However, it is not to be and according to the 'Batwoman' panel at DC FanDome 2020 being held on September 12 , Kate Kane might be done away with completely.

It was revealed that a major storyline would be addressing Kate's absence and how Javicia Leslie's Ryan Wilder, the new Batwoman will find her place on the show. It's quite possible that Kate Kane might be killed off, as well to push the story forward, which might come as a jolt for her fans. At the end of Season 1, Alice (Rachel Skarsten) works on a new face for Hush / Tommy Elliot (Gabriel Mann) and it is revealed that she has turned him into a doppelganger of Bruce Wayne. This could also be the reason for Kane's death or disappearance.

Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how Wilder finds her place here. Leslie, who is openly bisexual, is also making history as the first Black woman to portray Batwoman. “Honestly, it feels like an honor,” she said during the panel. “It’s funny, because I was looking on Instagram, and I was scrolling through new followers, and I saw all these rainbows in the bio…I felt like exactly what I’ve always wanted to be, which is a role model. I feel honored; I feel excited. I feel like there’s so many little Javicias that don’t have voices, little Black girls that didn’t have a voice. Little bisexual, bicurious, lesbian, gay, everything that just didn’t have voices and I feel honored to be able to be a voice for my community.”

“And then to play a character that represents my community in the same way, that’s not [as] common thing,” she continued. “It feels really powerful. And I feel like with everything that’s going on right now, this is what we need. We need to see representation, and I’m so thankful to [the producers] because this is what’s needed. Not just me—I’m looking at the entire cast of 'Batwoman'  and it is representation.”

While fans were disappointed that Ruby was not on the panel, they were impressed with the level of gravitas Leslie brought to the panel and are curious to know how Ryan would be introduced in the show. The panel also addressed family politics and Alice's (Rachel Skarsten) next diabolic moves. "They talked a lot about the family dynamic in the show. Switching leads will change a lot of that story momentum. Excited to see how they introduce Ryan and make it make sense. #Batwoman #DCFanDome," a fan tweeted.

The shooting of Batwoman's second season 2 has not commenced and Leslie has not yet got a chance to wear the costume yet. Leslie got the opportunity to test for Batwoman through a Zoom audition during the lockdown. Showrunner Caroline Dries stated that she 'blew everyone else away' with her first audition and become an 'obvious choice' for the role. The thought seemed to be seconded by a fan who tweeted: "With everything that is going on right now, this is what we need. We need to see representation" - @JaviciaLeslie."

'Batwoman' will air on The CW in 2021.
