Daytime Emmys 2020: Jason Thompson wins Outstanding Lead Actor, joyous fans say 'he finally got his due'

Jason Thompson won the 'Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series' for his role as Billy Abbott in 'The Young and the Restless', the hit CBS drama, at the 47th Daytime Emmy Awards. The actor pipped the likes of the other nominees, Steve Burton as Jason Morgan in 'General Hospital' (ABC), Thorsten Kaye as Ridge Forrester in 'The Bold and the Beautiful' (CBS), Jon Lindstrom as Kevin Collins/Ryan Chamberlain in 'General Hospital' (ABC), and Thaao Penghlis as Tony DiMera in 'Days of Our Lives' (NBC).

The Daytime Emmys tweet read: "@myjasonthompson wins on his 6th nom, for playing Billy Abbott on #YR. Billy Abbott is now the Daytime Emmy winning-est role, with both @davidtom_23 and #BillyMiller winning for the role previously. David Tom is the brother of tonight’s nominee @BBHeatherTom. #DaytimeEmmys."

Fans reactions poured in almost instantly as Twitterati showered lavish praise on the actor for his achievement. "He def should’ve won for any of his multiple noms playing Patrick on GH, but a talented mf-er is a talented mf-er," a fan tweeted. "So happy for you!! Finally got what you always deserved. Keep it up," a fan wrote. "Congrats Jason! I predicted you winning this Emmy months ago. Keep up your fantastic work!!!" a fan wished. "Congrats Jason Loved your Acceptance Speech with your beautiful family," one of the tweets read.

"Congratulations Jason! well deserved! Your kids were adorable during your acceptance speech!" a fan tweeted. "Anyone else I'd be soo pissed. CONGRATS man," a fan opined. "Jason finally recognized for his body of work. He got screwed over a few times as Patrick on #GH," a fan tweet read. "I wanted Steve to win but I’m happy with Jason an amazing talent," a fan wrote. 

The 47th Daytime Emmy Award is streaming live on CBS, marking the first time the ceremony has aired on network television in years. The awards were hosted by Sharon Osbourne, Sheryl Underwood, Eve, Carrie Ann Inaba and Marie Osmond, the hosts of CBS's daytime talk show 'The Talk'.
