‘Today’ show's coverage for Summer Olympics 2024
NBC, the major US network covering the Olympic Games, had ‘Today’ hosts spend over a week in Tokyo for the 2020 Summer Olympics held in 2021. The network has held broadcasting rights for the Summer Olympics since 1988 and Winter Olympics since 2002, providing extensive coverage, including exclusive interviews at international locales. Last month, Savannah Guthrie and her team jetted off to Paris in anticipation of the Games being a little over a year away. Guthrie, 51, reported from France for two days, while her co-stars back at NBC News studio cheered her on, with segments focusing on the preparation for the upcoming events and the Eiffel Tower's history.
The 2024 Olympics are expected to be a major event as it is the first with full capacity venues since the 2018 Games, with Covid-19 resulting in limited attendance for the delayed 2020 Games. The upcoming Olympics will also feature the newly added event of breaking. Paris will be the main host city, with 16 other cities on the mainland and one in Tahiti as subsites. The Games will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024, marking Paris' third hosting, a century after its last in 1924.
