'Counterpart' Season 2 finale preview: Mira is in control but the Primes have other plans
It is all coming to an end, but who will have the last laugh? Will it be Mira as she takes over the Alpha world or will it be Howard who finally makes it back home?
Something was borrowed from the Alphas when the Prime world shut down the Crossing in the finale episode of 'Counterpart' Season 1. Now, it will be returned with due interest in Season 2's finale episode. Starring J.K.Simmons as Howard Silk, Olivia Williams as Emily Silk, Harry Lloyd as Peter Quayle, Nazanin Boniadi as Clare, Sara Serriaocco as Baldwin, and Christiane Paul as Mira, the show is drawing to an end and let's just say it will be remembered for the longest time for its unconventional subject matter which deals with the existence of a parallel dimension.
Coming from creator Justin Marks, the show has been following a very interesting premise where the individual is his or her own enemy. As it is drawing to a close, with just one episode left here are the top three things to look out for in the series finale:
1. The urgent message from Upstairs
In the previous episode, it was revealed that Mira never really wanted to compromise with the Management about the two worlds. Instead, she did not hesitate to kill off all the members of the Management, other than Yanek (played by James Cromwell) who all along thought that Mira only wanted to talk about the prospects of the two worlds. The opening scene of the promo trailer for Episode 10, titled 'Better Angels', shows Mira talking to the members of the Office of Interface. She tells them, "Upstairs has an urgent message, it must be read to all departments at once." What is that message Mira is talking about? Is she going to negotiate the Crossing's closing or will she truly strike the Alpha world with the deadly virus?
2. Mira's final plan
In Episode 9, we saw Mira confessing to Yanek that she will put her final plan into action and although she gave him the impression that she merely wanted to talk to the Management, Mira ended up killing every member of the management. However, Howard Prime might just be a step ahead of Mira since the promo trailer reveals he has already captured one of Mira's disciples, Spencer. We also get a glimpse where Howard brings in Clare as a captive and forces her to extract information from Spencer about Mira's final plan. What could her plan be? Will Mira really release the virus in the Alpha world and eliminate the existence of an alternate reality?
3. The Primes return what was borrowed
The beginning of Season 2 saw the Primes taking over the Alpha world. With Howard Alpha imprisoned in Echo, Nadia killed in plain sight, and Clare Alpha already dead, their three Prime counterparts took over their place in the Alpha world. However, in the previous episode things gradually began to go back to their original order. Howard Alpha was released from Echo and he walked back to the Alpha world, Clare Prime confessed her crimes to Naya Temple (played by Betty Gabriel), and Baldwin reluctantly refused Spencer's offer to rejoin hands with Mira. However, it seems that in the series finale the Primes will get together to fight against Mira, as they try to protect the Alpha world from the threats of their own world. So does that make the Primes 'the Better Angels'?
'Counterpart' Season 2 Episode 10, 'Better Angels', is set to air on STARZ on February 17. Watch the promo trailer below:
