Pandemic Playlist: Our Top 5 female rappers whose groovy tracks will pump you up and slay your lockdown boredom
Hey there, music-loving friends, we hope you're doing great! As the lockdown restrictions appear to be slowly lifting in the month of May (albeit tentatively), life as we know it might be gradually returning to normal in the next 30 days. By this time next month, there might be no more quarantine, no more social distancing, and no more bad news — well, we hope that's the case, at least! So in view of sticking together through the interim, let's all band together and get jollified over these new female-fronted collaborations that have been trending on Twitter in the last 24 hours. We recently heard that the rap queens Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj would be dropping their remix of Doja Cat's viral smash hit, 'Say So', effectively burying a feud that their respective fanbases had started just a couple of weeks ago. And in even better news, we found out that Megan Thee Stallion and the Queen Bey, aka Beyoncé, have just released a brand-new collab, namely the 'Savage Remix'. So in honor of these jet-setting goddesses of the music industry, here's our Top 5 edition of the most popular female solo rappers in the United States today.
'Savage Remix' - Megan Thee Stallion ft Beyoncé
Let's kick things off with the piping-hot new collaboration from Megan Thee Stallion and Beyoncé. This fiery new track features a fresh new take on Megan's hit song 'Savage' which had become a viral sensation on TikTok, and spawned a million Carol Baskin dances after fans of the Tiger King took it to the next level on the video-sharing platform. Besides having the fabulous Beyoncé on this new track, proceeds from the new team-up will also go towards benefitting Bread Of Life's COVID-19 relief efforts in the Houston area, since both rappers hail from there.
'Yikes' - Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj is the current queen of the solo female rap scene, and she's making sure you don't forget it. Even before her rabid fanbase, Barbz, was locking horns with Doja Cat's fans over who deserved to be the current ruler of the rap throne, the bodacious Nicki Minaj was putting down her imitators by saying "You a clown, you do it for likes" on her fierce new track, 'Yikes' which spits firebombs on the haters and doubters. Minaj has sass and attitude for days, and she's here to stay and rule for many more years to come.
'Say So' - Doja Cat
Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj recently announced that their remix of 'Say So' would be releasing soon, effectively burying the hatchet between their warring fanbases. 'Say So' became such a popular hit on the viral video platform TikTok that it ended up gaining entry into the Billboard Hot 100 chart and climbed all the way to the Top 5 tunes on the list. Doja Cat herself admitted that she is a huge fan of Nicki Minaj's, so when the 'Say So' remix finally drops, we won't be surprised at all if it makes it way to the No 1 slot.
'Everybody Business' - Kehlani
Kehlani is currently one of the most popular rappers and R&B singers that we've heard in recent times. From collaborating with Justin Bieber to calling out rapper YG for cheating on her in one of her recent songs, the talented Kehlani pulls no punches and is always at her most honest, unapologetic best. This track 'Everybody Business' sees the young artiste calling out her legion of gossipy haters, who seem to revel more in talking about her love life than focusing on her music. It's a scintillating track that sees Kehlani telling her fans "I beg you, don't listen / I beg you, just hear me."
'Bad Memory' - K Flay
K Flay is one of the more talented female rappers in the United States who has recently started emerging into the spotlight more and more ever since her debut album was first released in 2014. Known for her brand of genre-defying hip-hop sounds, K Flay earned herself a Grammy nomination a couple of years ago and has collaborated with everyone, from rock stars like Tom Morello to electronica DJs like Louis the Child. She recently featured on the all-female-starring OST of the 2020 'Birds of Prey' movie, so we figured this was the perfect way to introduce you to the Harley Quinn of rap music.
