NBC's New Year's Eve 2021 is off to an awkward start. With viewers pointing out just how awkward the dynamics are between hosts Carson Daly and Amber Ruffin, something else also caught their eye and it was not good at all. Earning viewers' displeasure was Latin boy band CNCO after they covered the evergreen Enrique Iglesias love ballad 'Hero' and got slammed for ruining the song.

The NBC special that aired on December 31 from 10 pm ET/PT, featured the Miami-based boy band as part of its musical line-up. CNCO comprises five members — Joel Pimentel, Richard Camacho, Erick Brian Colón, Christopher Vélez and Zabdiel De Jesús. The group won a five-year contract with Sony Music Latin when they became the winners of the first season of 'La Banda'.

Having toured with Ricky Martin, their debut and second singles 'Tan Fácil' and 'Quisiera', made it to top charts. You might remember them for their debut album's hit song 'Reggaetón Lento' (Bailemos).

But if you don't, the Internet might acquaint you with them as "Fake-rique Iglesias" after they performed the singer's song 'Hero' and were blamed for "ruining a good song". Others called them a "hack band" and asked NBC 'Who picked this band?' and even pointed out how one of the band members "grabbing his d**k mid-performance is totally not hot."

There were some users who sure enough found the performance worthy of fire emojis, but don't let the Internet badmouth the boy band for you guys all that much. CNCO's second album, a self-titled one at that, released on April 6, 2018, and included the singles 'Mamita' and 'Se Vuelve Loca' — both of which rose to immense popularity.

Their debut EP 'Que Quiénes Somos', containing the singles 'De Cero' and 'Pegao' featuring Manuel Turizo, came out on October 11, 2019. Both albums have had the fun of debuting at number one on the Billboard Top Latin Albums and the top 40 on the Billboard 200, while the EP debuted within the top 15 of the former chart.
