Chuku Modu reprises Dr. Jared Kalu role as he returns to ABC's ‘The Good Doctor’ Season 6
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'The Good Doctor' returned for its sixth outing in October 2022 with Dr. Shaun Murphy, played by Freddie Highmore facing new challenges in his personal life. ABC viewers are already excited to see what's going to happen next to Shaun and his friends and colleagues at St. Bonaventure Hospital. Fun fact, one of Dr. Melendez’s OG residents is returning to St. Bonaventure.
The medical drama television series is based on the 2013 South Korean series of the same name. Actor Daniel Dae Kim noticed the original series and bought the rights for his production company. He began adapting the series and, in 2015, eventually shopped it to CBS Television Studios. CBS decided against creating a pilot. Because Kim felt so strongly about the series, he bought back the rights from CBS. Eventually, Sony Pictures Television and Kim worked out a deal and brought on David Shore, creator of the Fox medical drama House, to develop the series.

The return of Dr. Melendez's intern
Former 'Good Doctor' star Chuku Modu is set to reprise his role as Dr. Jared Kulu, our sister site Deadline reports. He’ll first appear on Monday, March 6, in an episode titled “Old Friends,” when Dr. Kalu arrives at St. Bons with a billionaire patient. Modu was a series regular in Season 1 of the ABC medical drama. Initially, Jared worked under Nicholas Gonzalez’s Dr. Melendez, alongside fellow residents Shaun and Claire. Jared and Claire even dated for a while but broke up toward the end of Season 1.
Why did Chuku Modu leave 'The Good Doctor'?
He was written out following the Season 2 premiere, at which point Jared left San Jose to continue his residency in Denver. Modu is the third series regular to leave The Good Doctor and come back. Fellow Season 1 cast member Beau Garrett resurfaced for a brief cameo in the COVID-themed Season 4 opener, while Thomas returned for a pair of Season 5 episodes following her shocking departure at the end of Season 4.
'Entitled Hard Heart,' the synopsis reads: "When a three-year-old arrives at the ER, the team immediately recognizes he is having a stroke. However, Dr Shaun Murphy’s diagnosis of the underlying cause doesn’t solve the problem which has Dr Park search deeper."
'The Good Doctor' will return for season six, episode 14, on Monday, February 27, on ABC.
