'Chicago P.D.' Season 7 midseason finale: Halstead's mistake from Episode 6 will put him in jeopardy as Intelligence Unit races to save him

Halstead's methods to get a suspect to confess led to the death of an innocent man in Episode 6. Though PD frames the man, the events still haunt Halstead.

Earlier on in Season 7 of 'Chicago P.D.', Interim Superintendent Jason Crawford asked Hank Voight and the Intelligence Unit to use a beta version of facial recognition software to nab that week's culprit — a man who murdered two young boys in cold blood.

Detective Jay Halstead, having discovered the boys' bodies, is determined to catch the killer no matter what. And so, when the software spits out a name with more than 99% accuracy, Halstead doubles down, using Voight's methods to get the man, Marcus West, to confess.

West kept insisting on his innocence, however, Halstead books him in county hoping a night there will force the man to confess. But this proved fatal as West was beaten up, and later dies from the injuries.

Later, Intelligence realizes that the software did make a mistake and that West was innocent. However, to save face, Voight and Crawford conspire to frame West for the murder, while allowing the young boys' relatives to enact their own revenge on the actual culprit.

Halstead is left conflicted because of his actions, feeling guilty, even as Voight tells him to let it go. This episode left a bad impression on fans, who were disappointed with the route 'Chicago P.D.' took.

And it seems the story does not end there. In the promo for the midseason finale, we see that Halstead is kidnapped by someone, who also kidnaps a woman that Halstead has been having a secret ongoing relationship with. In the two sneak peeks released, we see that this woman is connected to Marcus West and that Halstead has been helping this woman without letting her know his connection to West's case.

This begins the Intelligence Unit's race against time as they try to save Halstead before it is too late. Halstead looks to be beaten up quite a bit, though we would not have to wait for long to see his fate unfold.

The Season 7 midseason finale of 'Chicago P.D.' will air on NBC this Wednesday, November 20.
