Fans have been waiting for something to brew between Brett and Casey for over two seasons, and many of them are feeling rather disappointed. In the first episode of Season 9, the two shared some moments but it clearly wasn't enough for many fans. Viewers are divided on the mere fact whether the two should be together at all, or if they're completely done for. Others feel that the couple is being shoved down their throats and that they really don't want to see more of their romantic drama.

Is Brettsey over for good? Here's what the fans say.

"The way they’re shoving brettsey down our throats despite knowing how much we don’t want it... it doesn’t sit right with me #chicagofire," a fan wrote. Others feel that their relationship is being a bit of a 'slow burn'. "The slow burn between Brett & Casey is driving me crazy. come on guys speed things up. #ChicagoFire," a fan wrote. "Maybe now we should say RIP #dawsey and to Brett/Casey as well bc they're as good as dead #ChicagoFire," a fan tweeted.

However some fans say they preferred Brettsey when they were sure that the couple wasn't going to happen. "i liked brettsey when it wasn’t obvious now that it’s obvious i worry it’s gonna happen to fast #chicagofire," a fan tweeted. Some fans just want them to make out already, because Brett stayed at Casey's house. "Make out already, #Brettsey! We've waited long enough! #ChicagoFire," another wrote.

Speaking of Brett, there have been indications that the new season will see her stepping up as a leader. Showrunner Derek Haas told CinemaBlend about Brett's outlook this year, "This is going to be more of a professional relationship… with Brett really in a supervisor, mentoring role than as a fast friendship like she has had in the past. She has other things going on in her life." Most fans are just eager on whether her friendship with Captain Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) will blossom into something more.
