'Carol's Second Act': Release date, cast, plot, trailer, news and everything else you need to know about the forthcoming medical sitcom

With almost a month left for the series to premiere, here's everything you need to know about the new medical sitcom

CBS is on a roll this year as the network has a number of new shows premiering this year. And in barely a month, the network is all set to premiere with a brand new series titled 'Carol's Second Act'. 

'Carol's Second Act' is a forthcoming medical comedy sitcom created by Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins. The series features a star-studded cast and the pilot was directed by Pamela Fryman, who directed all but 12 episodes of 'Two and a Half Men'. 

With almost a month left for the series to premiere, here's everything you need to know about the forthcoming medical sitcom.

Release Date

'Carol's Second Act' will premiere on September 26, only on CBS. 

Plot

'Carol's Second Act' follows Carol Kenney (Patricia Heaton) after she retires from teaching and raises her two children. She then goes on to pursue her second act, which is her dream of becoming a doctor, as she begins an internship at the Loyola Memorial Hospital.

Cast 

Patricia Heaton

Patricia Heaton plays the role of Carol Kenney. Heaton is an actress and comedian, who is known for her role as Debra Barone on the famed sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond and as Frances Heck on The Middle. Heaton has also won three Emmy Awards and two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Everybody Loves Raymond and a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Culinary Program as host of Patricia Heaton Parties.

Kyle MacLachlan

Kyle MacLachlan plays the role of Dr. Stephen Frost. Frost is a handsome and accomplished, Senior Attending Physician on the ward. Kyle is best known for his role as Dale Cooper in Twin Peaks and its film prequel Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me. He has also played prominent roles in other sitcoms like Trey MacDougal in Sex and the City, Orson Hodge in Desperate Housewives, The Captain in How I Met Your Mother, the Mayor of Portland in Portlandia and Calvin Zabo in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Ashley Tisdale

Ashley Tisdale plays the role of Jenny Kenney, Carol’s daughter who became a pharmaceutical rep. Tisdale is known for her role as Maddie in Disney's Suite Life of Zack and Cody, and Sharpay Evans in the High School Musical series. In 2016, she launched her own makeup brand, Illuminate Cosmetics and returned to music this year with new singles, "Voices in My Head" and "Love Me & Let Me Go". She also released her 3rd studio album titled Symptoms in May 2019.

Director 

Pamela Fryman

Pamela Fryman is known for her work in all but 12 episodes of 'Two and A Half Men'. Apart from directing the pilot episode this season, Pamela is also one among the executive producers for the series. She has also received recognition from  Academy of Television Arts & Sciences also known as the (ATAS), the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the Directors Guild of America. 

Trailer

The trailer begins with Carol entering her first day of internship at Loyola Memorial Hospital, only to be mistaken as the chief resident. She reveals that she joined the med school after her marriage fell apart and her husband went to find himself. Known as the old intern, the local circus freak, she tries to fit in, and accomplish her dream of becoming a doctor.
