'Carnival Row' Season 2 Episode 1 & 2 Review: Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne shine despite slow pace

What happened in episodes  3 and 4 of 'Carnival Row'?

As tensions increase between the various groups in the city, 'Carnival Row' Season 2 Episode 3 delves further into the show's shifting political scene. Vignette decides to alter her strategy for dealing with the people who are oppressing her race. She announces that she will no longer put up with violence and discrimination and that she will resolve the situation on her own. Moreover, she decides against negotiating with the humans and instead chooses to confront them with strength. Further tension develops between Vignette and Rycroft as a result of her change of strategy.

Moreover, the breach between Philo and Vignette was seen to be expanding in the fourth episode. Although Philo was attempting to spare the ravens from their own destruction, his acts were misunderstood. To avenge Oona's death, Kaine was adamant about killing Dombey, and Philo was determined to stop him at all costs because he knew the outcome wouldn't be what they had anticipated. On the other hand, Leonora, the commander of the rebel forces, had no intention of releasing Imogen and Agreus, who were still imprisoned in Ragusa.

Episodes 3 and 4 of 'Carnival Row' lack moments of dullness

The fourth episode of the show sheds light on the character arc of Tamzin Merchant’s Imogen and her complicated love interest, Agreus. The episode explores their relationship and its difficulties, which are shown with some dreamlike scenarios. This adds intricacy to the show's exploration of racial and class relations. In these episodes, Tamzin Merchant's portrayal of Imogen is particularly noteworthy since she expertly captures the character's emotional anguish about her separation from Agreus. Also, the action scenes in the series advance the story and help the characters grow rather than just being there to wow the audience. Each character's capabilities are utilized to great success in the action scenes, whether it be Rycroft's detective skills, Vignette's fighting prowess, or the fae's magic. Both episodes thus move the story forward without any moment of dullness.

'Carnival Row' Season 2 is now streaming on Prime Video.
