'Carnival Row' Season 2 Episode 1 & 2 Review: Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne shine despite slow pace
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA : It's been a while since 'Carnival Row', the neo-noir fantasy series starring Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne, debuted on Prime Video in 2019. The series, which was created by René Echevarria and Travis Beacham, was initially renewed before it even aired, but the pandemic postponed the release of season 2.
Season 2 will be released in weekly installments of two episodes, unlike the first season, which was neatly packaged for binge-watching. It is also longer than the first season and, sadly, also the series finale. After waiting for 3.5 years to see the show's continuation, we now know that its ending is bittersweet.
Episodes 1 and 2 of the show have been released by the creators on February 17 on Amazon Prime, and the show does seem to look quite promising. Let's see how the show did so far.

What is the plot of 'Carnival Row' Season 2?
Former inspector Rycroft Philostrate looks into yet another murder spree in a mythological country where humans oppress the fae-folk (fairies). Because of their divergent goals, Vignette Stonemoss and the rebel group The Black Raven are seeking payback against humans in The Brugue, which is straining his connection with the latter. 'Carnival Row' Season 2 Episodes 1 and 2 continue to center on the relationship between Rycroft, an Orlando Bloom-played human investigator, and Vignette, a Cara Delevingne-played refugee. Their love story is interwoven within a wide world of political intrigues and a series of terrible murders that seriously jeopardize the safety of the city.
First two episodes intertwine a number of separate storylines
In the opening episode, Rycroft and Vignette learn to live in the blatantly oppressive society while finding comfort in their enduring love. It introduces us to the hostile environment, which has only intensified since the Chancellor's passing. The consequences of the animosity, which only intensifies in 'Carnival Row' Season 2 Episode 2, are also covered in this episode.
The first two episodes of season 2 feel a little bloated and aimless as they attempt to create a brave new universe for 'Carnival Row' without the support of a mystery. Tensions are rising and everyone is yearning for a fight after the annexation of the fae and faun creatures to the Row in the season 1 finale. Nevertheless, it's hard to tell where the writers will direct that energy based on the plot or what the characters are up to. The first season had a solid framework for integrating the various strands, but the new batch of episodes has a pace that suggests that the plot is being developed as the narrative progresses.
As the show's leads, Bloom and Delevingne continue to have wonderful chemistry, and there is a wide range of supporting actors who give their characters depth and nuance. The villains of the new season are also expertly chosen and make for an interesting watch.
The first two episodes of 'Carnival Row' season 2 are streaming now on Amazon Prime Video. New episodes drop every Friday.
