‘Can't separate art and artist’: Alexander Wang slammed for hosting NYC fashion show after sexual assault scandal
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The ex-Balenciaga creative director Alexander Wang has been mercilessly criticized online after he organized a fashion show in New York City, just a few years after facing multiple sexual assault accusations from transgender men and women, and cisgender men. The event saw models like Julia Fox and Gabriette Bechtel on the catwalk wearing the disgraced designer’s new collection. There were a total of 150 attendees, including editor-in-chief of Vogue Anna Wintour, who hooted for him from the front row to encourage him.
Vogue also released a full-page review of the February 8 show, which was not in the official guide of New York Fashion Week (NYFW). The fashion magazine said, “It’s been a minute since Alexander Wang has been on the runway in New York City. In between that May 2019 show and now, Wang faced allegations of sexual misconduct that threw the future of his business into question.”

‘Recapturing that heat won’t be easy'
“He made a public apology and his accusers announced they were ‘moving forward,’ and he put on a show in Los Angeles’s Chinatown in April of 2022, but a New York City comeback has a different level of import,” Vogue noted, before adding, “Recapturing that heat won’t be easy, but when he came bounding out from backstage and made his trademark running bow you knew he was going to give it his best shot.”
Wang himself spoke with Complex about his Cupid’s Door show and said, “New York has always been home, but one of the most exciting things about New York right now is that it’s going through this renaissance with a lot of new energy and new people coming in.”
He also mentioned the challenges he faced while coming up with the new collection, which will reportedly be available in May of this year. The 39-year-old added, “It’s a mixture of three seasons so we always try to wait for the right moment when we feel like there’s something to say with a message we really believe in. The most challenging part is when you’re working over a duration of multiple seasons, how to then put it together into one story and present it at the right time, in the right location, all the logistics of it; but it’s the exciting part.”
'Disgusting serial assaulter'
All this hype and praises were seemingly not enough for people, who did not shy away from calling Wang out. They also took a dig at Fox, who walked the ramp for the alleged sexual predator. A critic tweeted, “I don’t understand the reason why celebrities are so obsessed with Alexander Wang. What is this guy doing that makes you want to forget about his rape allegations? Do they love cheap collections and sexual assaults that much?”

I wish we collectively forgot Alexander Wang’s existence. His return to NYFW is an embarrassment to us all bc it confirms loud & clear that we still dont care about sexual assault victims & we still bow down to rapists bc they design good. You cant separate the art from the artist
