'Brother Vs Brother': Is home turf an unfair advantage? Jonathan confident he'll celebrate in Drew's backyard

The Scott brothers are taking sibling rivalry to a fever pitch with Season 7 of 'Brother Vs Brother,' which premieres on HGTV on September 9. For the uninitiated, the show will focus on Drew and Jonathan, each purchasing and renovating a house. During that period, they will be judged on weekly challenges. The winner gets all the cheers and applauds, but the loser will be subjected to varying degrees of embarrassment.

'Brother Vs Brother' made its debut as a team competition but two seasons later, the brothers were competing directly. Jonathan has won Season 3, 4 and 6 while Drew won 5. David Font and Melissa Roche of Drew's team won Seasons 1 and 2 respectively. If we take the team format into consideration, their scores are leveled at three wins each, but ever since they began competing solo, Drew has been able to bag just a win.

Interestingly, at the moment, Drew is at an advantage because he lives in the neighborhood they are supposed to pick houses from — Los Angeles' historic Hancock Park. He and his wife, Linda Phan Scott, along with a team of builders and design specialists, re-did their home recently, and therefore, Drew knows what works and what doesn't. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about Jonathan. He has to figure it all out the hard way.

For the first challenge, the brothers will purchase and upgrade a portion of the house of their choice and have storied designers from HGTV judge them on the day of the reveal. The challenge within the challenge is the construction dates of some of the houses are from the previous century and that will definitely up the difficulty level. Will this stand in the way of the brothers putting together a stellar performance? That's an important question, but at the moment Drew and Jonathan are focussed on winning.

“I have the home field advantage and plan to settle this once and for all with a hometown win," Drew told HGTV. Even though Jonathan was sure that it was an "unfair advantage", he appeared confident and ready to win the show: "I'm winning. Oh, I'll be celebrating in your backyard." Jonathan was reluctant at first but he eventually agreed to pick houses in Hancock Park because it would be the "sweetest 'Brother Vs. Brother win ever".
