'Below Deck': Will Captain Lee fire Chef Rachel? Charter guests make a fuss over 'fake crab' dish
Chef Rachel Hargrove is a perfectionist. She likes her kitchen organized and is more than enthusiastic to put together interesting meals every day on the yacht. She is constantly working on improving her game, which is why feedback is important to her; even the kind chief stewardess Francesca Rubi gives in this week's episode of 'Below Deck'.
Rachel puts together batches of crab couscous and plates them interestingly but the charter guests nitpick. One of them asks if his plate had a hole because the food seems to have disappeared from it and continues that the plating resembles a crescent moon. Rachel is able to calm them down a bit, assuring that the plating is intentional. However, once she left, Francesca gets asked questions about the quality of the crab and some even ask if it was tin crab.
Both Francesca and Rachel are surprised to hear such complaints. The stew even wonders why would guests think that they would serve "fake crab" on a superyacht? Rachel however clears the air with Francesca, says that it's "expensive crab".
Will this episode reach Captain Lee Rosbach's ears? If it does, how will he react? The last time guests complained of food, Captain Sandy Yawn fired chef Hindrigo "Kiko" Lorran. The guests had said that his Vegas-themed dinner felt more like a menu from a kid's birthday party. Even though they enjoyed the taste, some thought it was too fried for their liking.
Sandy immediately took that up with Kiko, who admitted to the slip-up and readily agreed to leave the yacht once the then-current charter was over.
However, Captain Lee isn't the kind to micromanage. He may have a zero-tolerance policy for mediocrity but is not known to be someone who hovers around his team while they are at work. In all probability, like many other issues in the past, this one will be handled efficiently too. Here's hoping Rachel is able to convince the guests that they are being served top quality food.
