Bong Joon Ho's 'Mickey 17' fiasco: Robert Pattinson fans furious over release delays

Fans of filmmaker Bong Joon-Ho must wait a bit longer to see his magic on screen, as his sci-fi film will now be released in 2025

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Bong Joon Ho’s highly anticipated science fiction film, ‘Mickey 17', starring Robert Pattinson, has been rescheduled for release on December 31, 2025. 

Variety reports that the movie, initially slated for a debut on March 29, 2024, has been pushed back to accommodate the release of 'Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.'

The postponement of 'Mickey 17' can be attributed to the SAG-AFTRA strike, and subsequent post-production delays. 

This setback has only heightened the anticipation surrounding the film, especially considering it marks Bong Joon-Ho's first project since his Oscar victory, which has increased the amount of excitement for the film to an unprecedented degree.

Fans are disappointed with the revised release date for 'Mickey 17'

The adjusted release date for the film, featuring Robert Pattinson, stirred discontent among fans who are disappointed by the extended wait.

One fan, expressing disappointment, conveyed their feelings about the delayed release of 'Mickey 17' this year, stating, "I lived so many lifetimes and mickey 17 is not even coming out this year anymore......"

Another fan highlighted their frustration and said, "Mickey17 got delayed by a whole year? Damn!"

While another simply vented their dismay and tweeted, "Mickey17 em 2025 :(((."

Another distraught admirer stated that the news of the movie's delayed release ruined his morning and wrote, "Morning because if it was a good morning we would not be getting Mickey17 in 2025."

Regarding the continual delays for the release of the movie, another social media user said, "Mickey 17 now coming out the same year as The Batman 2 is crazy That movie was supposed to come out almost 2 years ago."

Meanwhile, there were some fans on X who were optimistic about the new release date and shared, "I feel like dropping MICKEY 17 after a Christmas barren of big spectacle movies will work in its favour though, assuming that it's anything like Bong's other sci-fi features."

Another fan supported the delay, citing the fact that Robert Pattinson will be in two films in next year, "Ok when you put it like that maybe mickey 17's delay isn't so bad after all."

What will be the plot of 'Mickey 17?'

The narrative of the film is rigorously kept under wraps, although since it is an official adaptation of Edward Ashton's novel 'Mickey7', some hints about the concepts may be gleaned.

In alignment with the novel, the movie could center around Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson), a disposable human tasked with assuming control of the icy world of Niflheim. Following each cycle's demise, Mickey's body regenerates, retaining his memories from previous iterations.
