Netflix's 'Heartstopper Forever' is almost upon us, and the cast will include a couple of new faces, with a major role recast. Kit Connor and Joe Locke reprise their role alongside  Yasmin Finney, Will Gao, Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Tobie Donovan, Rhea Norwood, and more. This time around, new faces feature Derek Jacobi and Anna Maxwell Martin. The latter will be playing the role of Sarah, Nick's mother, after Olivia Colman was unable to return for 'Heartstopper Forever'.  The final instalment of the series will adapt the movie format as opposed to the usual TV series.

Creator Alice Oseman spoke about the recast. Per US Magazine, "When beginning to work on the Heartstopper Forever screenplay, I knew how important it was that Sarah, Nick’s mum, appeared in the story. Since season 1, we have seen how close Nick is with his mum — she’s one of the few people he can turn to in moments of crisis. While in season 3, we were able to tweak the story to avoid any appearance of Sarah, it felt nonsensical for her to be absent from this final chapter, given some of the emotional struggles Nick faces." The statement added, "Sadly, Olivia Colman was not able to join us for the film, so we made the very difficult decision to recast the role, rather than exclude the character. We are deeply grateful for Olivia’s beautiful performance as Sarah in seasons 1 and 2 of Heartstopper, through such iconic moments as Nick coming out as bisexual, and we know that her performance will live on in the hearts of every Heartstopper fan."

'Heartstopper' follows high school athlete Nick (Connor), who begins to doubt his sexuality after his friendship with classmate Charlie (Locke). The show premiered in 2022 and has seen three seasons since. The official logline per Tudum reads, "the couple confronts the challenges of a long-distance relationship — Nick preparing for university, and Charlie gaining independence at school. "The other characters who have been featured on the show will get their journeys wrapped up as well." Joe Locke and Kit Connor serve as executive producers for the first time, alongside Patrick Walters, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Alice Oseman, and Euros Lyn.
