'Bodkin': Furious fans shred Netflix's thriller comedy series, call it 'neither funny nor thrilling'

Viewers are disappointed with Netflix's new Irish series 'Bodkin', citing flaws in the show's execution

DUBLIN, IRELAND: 'Bodkin', a dark comedy thriller series, made its debut on Netflix, on May 9, 2024.

The seven-episodic Irish series revolves around a podcaster, his assistant, and an investigative journalist who join forces to investigate a 25-year-old disappearance case in a small town of Ireland.

Created by Jez Scharf, 'Bodkin' features Will Forte, Siobhán Cullen, Robyn Cara and David Wilmot in key roles.

Netflix's 'Bodkin' disappoints fans of thriller genre

'Bodkin' received mixed reviews from critics on the day of its release. Unfortunately, it has failed to impress the fans of the thriller genre as well.

An X user criticized 'Bodkin' in a tweet that reads, "Bodkin sells itself as a funny yet thrilling look into an obsession with true crime. Some scenes will stay with you, but by and large, the show is neither as funny nor thrilling as it thinks it is, and sadly, it doesn’t deconstruct true crime tropes with much depth either."

Another netizen emphasized, "Bodkin is an interesting enough Netflix dark comedy, but it would’ve been far more entertaining at 30min/episode instead of 50. Still, it features fascinating commentary on journalism vs amateur sleuthing."

With mixed feelings about the series, a fan wrote, "Netflix's mystery drama Bodkin kept me invested enough to watch the whole thing. But it often conflates podcasters with journalists, and that annoyed me every time. It is also guilty of a lot of terrible journalist tropes on screen, including sleeping with a source."

"Only watched 1 episode - HATED it. What’s wrong wt Dove? She’s f-king unlikeable. There’s a better way to write a strong, no-BS character," another user bashed the series.

However, some fans appreciate the mystery with a pinch of comedy in 'Bodkin'. A fan tweeted, "Really liked the first episode of Bodkin on Netflix. Very promising."

"Just watched the first episode of Bodkin - really good - funny, dark, mysterious. I'm hooked! If I wasn't busy today I'd be settling in for a binge watch! Congratulations to everyone involved. Big recommend!" wrote another.

Will there be 'Bodkin' Season 2?

'Bodkin' concluded its story in the seven lengthy episodes. The renewal of the series seems highly unlikely as the mysteries of the town have been solved by our protagonists.

Moreover, there has been no official announcement of 'Bodkin' getting another season from the producers or Netflix.
