Warning: Contains spoilers for 'Bodkin'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Bodkin' is streaming on Netflix from May 9, 2024, and the seven-episode long series sees two podcasters Gilbert (Will Forte) and Emmy (Robyn Cara), and an investigative journalist Dove (Siobhán Cullen) investigate the mysterious disappearance that took place two decades ago.
Jez Scharf is the creator of 'Bodkin' and the series is based around a fictitious town called Bodkin, where the residents of the town keep secrets and try to hide the truth behind the disappearance of Fiona and Malachy. As the series wears on, it is revealed that Fiona took shelter at a convent and was pregnant. Emmy discovers that a nun, Mrs O'Shea (Pom Boyd) who became a guest house owner had adopted their child who survived as his mother died in childbirth.
Mrs O'Shea reveals to Gilbert and Emmy that her adopted son Sean O'Shea (Chris Walley) who thinks he was born in Romania, is the biological son of Fiona and Seamus Gallagher (David Wilmot). Seamus who is unaware of this is on the lookout for Sean for a truck of eel fish that he plans to smuggle. Will Seamus get to know about his son's identity? Will Gilbert complete his podcast? Here is an explanation of the final episode of 'Bodkin'.
Seamus learns about Sean being his son
Dove, who is arrested by Interpol for her disappearance after Krtek's murder, cuts a deal with them and promises to give them Seamus, who is their primary target. She convinces Gilbert to tell Seamus that Sean is his son as that would bring him in.
Gilbert tells Seamus the truth about Fiona's death and the child being alive but before he can reveal the identity, Seamus' rival gang, the McArdle family arrives. Gilbert and Seamus meet Sean where his identity is revealed to Seamus. The police are already there after being notified by Dove.
When the police try to arrest Seamus, he loses his temper and takes Gilbert hostage.
Seamus threatens to blow up the Samhein festival
Seamus escapes with Gilbert and ties him to a rock in a cave. He plans to use the explosives he stole from the McArdle family to blow up the entire town and escape.
Dove helps Interpol intercept Seamus who is also cornered by the McArdle family. Seeing his plan failing, Seamus sets off the explosives but Emmy makes sure that the people of Bodkin are safe.
Gilbert also escapes in the nick of time and everyone walks out safe from the explosion.
Gilbert decides to give up being a podcaster
Throughout the series, Gilbert is seen recording sound bytes related to the case and he is committed to this story as a story of a lifetime. In the final episode, he even talks about getting on air with this podcast.
However, the case and the near-death experience open his eyes to what the truth he is so desperately trying to seek does to people and the deaths that happened because he tried to make the podcast.
He decides to give up on being a podcaster and start a new life. Dove, however, who used to hate the concept of a podcaster becomes one herself in the final shot of the series.
