NBC's 'Bluff City Law' just premiered and if cast member Josh Kelly is to be believed, the legal drama might just be what would get you into procedural shows.

Speaking exclusively to MEA Worldwide (MEAWW) at the pre-Emmys party held ahead of the primetime awards ceremony's live airing on Sunday, September 23, Kelly shared how even for someone like him who's not into procedurals, the NBC show works wonders in terms of capturing the intrigue. "(The show) is really exciting, like a David and Goliath procedural drama, but it has family and heart, for which I actually like it," Kelly told us at the pre-Emmys party. "I don't really watch procedurals, but this one's really fun."

For those unaware, procedural dramas focus "on how crimes are solved or some other aspect of a law enforcement agency, legislative body, or court of law." As for the David and Goliath references drawn by Kelly, it refers to the story from the Bible "about a young man (David) and his quest to defeat the evil tyranny of a giant Philistine (Goliath) who is bent on becoming the one and only power. With his faith in God, David believes he can defeat anything."

Similarly, on the show, we see Jimmy Smits returning as yet another TV lawyer, Elijah Strait, who reconciles with his daughter Sidney (Caitlin McGee) to topple over society's giant issues like company fraud, wrongful incarceration, immigration policies and invasion of privacy. Kelly plays the role of Sidney's ex-husband Robbie - a cop who is clearly still in love with Sidney, even after she broke his heart, as believed by her colleagues.

All of one-episode-old, Bluff City Law's portrayal of Sidney and her ex-husband's relationship is kind of convoluted. Sidney claims the two are good friends, but there's clearly some unrequited love in there, with Robbie being the one channeling it the most. It is still unrevealed why the two called it quits, but there's a high chance of a possible love triangle brewing with obvious sparks flying between Sidney and her new colleague Jake Riley (Barry Sloane.)

'Bluff City Law' airs on Mondays at 9pm only on NBC.
