Muhammad Ali fits the bill of a legend perfectly. The famed slugger will now be back on screen in Netflix's 'Blood Brothers: Malcolm X & Muhammad Ali'. The documentary will delve into their three-year friendship and the strain it goes through over the leadership of the Nation of Islam (NOI) between the African-American political activist and the boxer. The much-anticipated docu will also include new footage that charts their friendship and the rift that followed.

Ali was a highly influential figure during the Civil Rights Movement -- he was a heroic symbol that amalgamated the entire span of the revolution's ideological spectrum. He had the unusual ability to appeal simultaneously to diverse communities and organizations who otherwise agreed on very little politically.

What was Muhammad Ali's net worth?

Apart from the records in the ring and the headlines off of it, Ali's net worth was a constant topic of discussion. Celebrity Net Worth notes that he was worth $50 million at the time of his death and was one of the highest-paid athletes in the world during his time. Ali earned millions in his fights. His bout with Joe Frazier in 1971 saw him pocket $2.5 million and then made $5.45 million fighting George Foreman in 1974. His biggest moolah came when he raked $7.9 million for his bout against Larry Holmes.

Ali's major pay came in 2006 when he sold an 80% stake in GOAT LLC, a corporation that would handle his endorsements to a company called CKX for $50 million. There have been reports that his net worth could have been as high as $80 million, however, it wasn't verified.

'Blood Brothers: Malcolm X & Muhammad Ali' synopsis

The official synopsis reads: "Blood Brothers tells the extraordinary and ultimately tragic story of the friendship between two of the most iconic figures of the 20th century: Muhammad Ali, the greatest boxer of all time, and Malcolm X, the Nation of Islam’s - and black America’s - most incendiary and charismatic leader. This was the unlikeliest of friendships - the brash Olympic Champion who spoke in verse to the amusement of the white press and the ex-con intellectual-turned-revolutionary who railed against the evils of white oppression and dismissed sports as a triviality. But their bond was deep, their friendship real."

'Blood Brothers' releases September 9 on Netflix.
