'Billions' Season 5 Episode 9 Fan Review: Show seems to have passed its 'end by date'
Spoilers for 'Billions' Season 5 Episode 9: 'Implosion'
One of the storylines of 'Implosion' was the breakup between Wendy Rhoades (Maggie Siff) and Nico Tanner (Frank Grillo) after he rips up the painting in front of her blaming Axe (Damian Lewis) and also the gang up that Mike Prince (Corey Stoll), Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti) and Taylor (Asia Kate Dillon) plan to decimate Axe. Safe to say, this was the much-needed episode 'Billions' needed after what was an impressive start to the second half of the financial thriller.
Fans on Twitter had their two cents to share on the episode as well. One of them felt the episodes, despite the hard-hitting storyline was getting a bit melodramatic. "#Billions is still good but like all shows which have passed their “end by” date, is increasingly indistinguishable from a soap opera." This was seconded by another who said: "#Billions was an interesting show, but at this point, it feels like watching a cartoon in comparison to Succession". Some felt the pop culture references were hard to understand.

"F*** me, 20 minutes into #Billions and I’ve got 50 things from the dialogue to Google. Give that shit a rest, man…we know you’re clever. Shouldn’t take three hours to watch a one-hour show. @SHO_Billions @BillionsWriters #Billions". Another said: "I don’t know why I enjoy shows like #Billions & #SuccessionHBO. They’re nothing but rich white men being petty, terrible human beings. They be destroying ppl’s lives just to get the secret ingredient to a pizza from their favorite restaurant."
There were a few positive reviews that trickled in as well. 'Tonight’s episode of #Billions @SHO_Billions was awesome! So many directions & twist! Thank you @briankoppelman brilliant writers & magnificent actors. @DanSoder". With the introduction of Mike Prince at the start of season 5, the focus between Axe and Rhoades' rivalry seemed to have taken a backseat, but 'Implosion' renews it and that was a plus for 'Billions' ardents.
